Junior Nick Raymond is the first Eagle-qualifier to the NCAA Championships since 2007
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Saturday, Nov. 14, the team and individual qualifiers to the NCAA Championships, Nov. 21. Eastern Michigan University men's cross country junior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) was announced as an individual at-large qualifier based on his performance at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 13.
Raymond was selected following his eighth-place performance at regionals, where he finished the 10K race in 30:40.1.
The Erie, Mich. native is having a stellar season for the Eagles, as he competed in four meets throughout the year. In the regular season, he ran in the Notre Dame Invitational and the Pre-Nationals Invitational, posting top-50 finishes in both. At the Mid-American Conference Championships, Raymond was crowned the MAC Individual Champion, as he crossed the finish line in 24:10.28. He received First-Team All-MAC honors for his performance, while also taking home All-Region honors for his race at the NCAA Regional.
The men's team narrowly missed out on an at-large bid after finishing third at the event with 102 points. The only two Great Lakes Regional teams to qualify were Michigan and Michigan State, who qualified automatically based on finishing first and second at the race. None of the 13 at-large team bids were given to Great Lakes teams.
The University of Louisville will host the NCAA Championships, Nov. 21, with the race taking place at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park, the same location as the Pre-Nationals, Oct. 17. The women will begin their race at Noon, while Raymond and the men are slated to start at 1 p.m. More information on the NCAA Championships can be found by clicking here.
