YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
One week after registering their third win of the season, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team will host Ohio State University, Saturday, Nov. 14. The weekend dual will mark the third in as many days for the Buckeyes (3-0; 0-0 B1G), who come to Jones Natatorium after competing against Cleveland State (Nov. 12) and Miami (Nov. 13).

A CLOSER LOOK AT OHIO STATE:  Entering a busy week of competition, Ohio State holds a 3-0 record to open the season. More impressive than their record however, is the way in which the Buckeyes have won. Ohio State has eclipsed 200 points in each of it's three wins this season, scoring 211, 207, and 210.5 against Ohio, Kenyon, and Denison, respectively. The high scoring Buckeyes will be a tall task for the Eagles, but will serve as an early season barometer for an EMU squad that has opened the season with three consecutive wins.
On the springboard, the Buckeyes have taken the top two spots in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in each of their three duals. Additionally, Ohio State has swept the top-three spots in the events four out of six times this season. Led by Taylor Pamplin and Hannah Thek, the Buckeyes will test a young EMU diving squad led by sophomore Becky Deacon (Sherwood Park, Alberta-Vimy Ridge Academy) and Mattie Boucha (Northville, Mich.-Northville).
In the water, Elizabeth Auckley will swim alongside EMU junior, Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area). Auckley is coming off of first and third place finishes in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, respectively, entering a busy week. Meanwhile, Mitcheltree has opened the season with three wins in each event for the Green and White. Another intriguing match up to watch in the water comes in the Butterfly events. In the 100 Fly, Eastern Michigan junior Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte) will tackle Ohio State's Liz Li. Li is coming off a first place finish over Denison in which she touched in at 54.87. Jackson will also clash with Big Ten All-Conference Second team selection, Lindsey Clary in the 200 Fly.

RECENT HISTORY VERSUS THE OHIO STATE:  This weekend's dual with Ohio State marks the second between the two squads in the past decade. The Buckeyes came out victorious, 195-105, Jan. 18, 2008. Despite the lack of dual history, the two teams have become rather familiar with each other over the past few seasons. Like they will later this season, the Eagles have taken part in the Ohio State Invitational each of the past three years.

MAC TAKES NOTICE TO VAN ALLEN'S  VALIANT PERFORMANCE:  On the heels of one of her best performances in her Eastern Michigan University career, junior swimmer Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) was named Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced, Monday, Nov. 9. Van Allen's impressive performance pushed the Eagles past Oakland University, 193.5-104.5, in Jones Natatorium, Saturday, Nov. 7.
Van Allen turned in three individual first place finishes for a total of 27 points to help the Eagles down the Golden Grizzlies. The Indianapolis, Ind. product won 200 and 500 Freestyle as well as the 200 IM in which she turned in a career-best time of 2:06.33.
Monday's announcement marks the first time in Van Allen's career she has been named MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, while it is the second time this season an Eagle has earned the honor (Alexis Mitcheltree, Oct. 24) this season.

RANKS OF THE GREEN AND WHITE: The Eagles' strong start to the 2015-16 campaign ranks them atop the top times in the Mid-American Conference so far this season. The Green and White hold six of the 13 top times, including both the 400 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Medley Relay. Adding in the individual top marks of freshman Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville), junior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area),  and junior Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte), the Eagles hold more top times than any other MAC program. Junior Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) and Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) also rank in the top-three. Van Allen ranks second in the 200 and 500 free while adding in a third-ranked time in the 200 Individual Medley. Just outside the top-three in several events, Worthley cracks the top times in the 100 Breaststroke, coming in with the third best time in the conference.

SOPHOMORES STRONG ON THE SPRINGBOARD:  Sophomores Becky Deacon (Sherwood Park, Alberta-Vimy Ridge), Emily Tubbs (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe), Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser), Molly Miller (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Harrison), and Mattie Boucha (Northville, Mich.-Northville) make up Eastern Michigan's young and talented diving team. While the Eagles will face their toughest competition to date, Saturday when they play host to the Buckeyes, the Green and White divers are coming off of a strong outing.
Deacon won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against Oakland, Saturday, Nov. 7, scoring 253.43 and 252.28, respectively. Meanwhile, teammates Boucha, Tubbs and Shereda added top-three scores as the Eagles were awarded 28-of-32 points in the diving portion of the dual.

JUNIORS LEAD CHARGE PAST GOLDEN GRIZZLIES: Strong performances by a trio of juniors pushed the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team past Oakland University, 193.5-104.5, Saturday, Nov. 7, in Jones Natatorium. Junior Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) racked up three first place finishes while fellow juniors Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) and Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte) added two each.

CLOSING IN ON 250:  Head Coach Peter Linn's 27-year tenure at Eastern Michigan has guided the Eagles to a number of successes over the years. Following Saturday's sweep of Oakland, Linn's career record on the women's side sits at 61-35 in his 11-year career at the helm of both the men's and women's squads. Additionally, the win moves Linn's total coaching record to 246-91,  good for a .729 winning percentage. With plenty of opportunities on the schedule for each of Linn's teams, he could reach the 250 win mark this season.
