YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will play host to Ohio State University, Saturday, Nov. 14, in Jones Natatorium. The Buckeyes are one of three Big Ten Conference opponents on the Eagles grueling 2015-16 slate. The co-ed dual is set to begin at 1 p.m.

A CLOSER LOOK AT OHIO STATE:  Ohio State closed out the 2014-15 dual schedule with four consecutive wins before turning in a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Conference Championships. From there, the Buckeyes excelled on the national stage, ending the year with a 16th place finish. This season, Ohio State has picked up where they left off, boasting a 2-0 record with wins over Kenyon and Denison. While the Buckeyes are currently undefeated in dual action, Ohio State's busy week comes to a close in Ypsilanti. The Buckeyes host Cleveland State and Miami before traveling to Jones Natatorium for Saturday's meeting with the Eagles.
The Buckeyes are led by a pair of swimmers that notched All-American honors a season ago in Josh Fleagle and Matt McHugh with several other honorable mentions filling in the roster. Fleagle will likely race alongside Eastern Michigan's Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) in mid-distance freestyle events, if he competes. Earning All-American status in the 200 Freestyle last season, Fleagle has yet to compete this season. As for McHugh he's opened the season with wins in the 100 Backstroke and Butterfly. McHugh has also been a consistent leadoff man for OSU's relay teams.  On Saturday, McHugh will face some of the Eagles' top swimmers. In the Backstroke, junior Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) and freshman Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary N.C.-Cary) will swim alongside McHugh, while senior Chris Hodges (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson) will get the call in the Breaststroke events.

RECENT HISTORY VERSUS OHIO STATE:  Eastern Michigan has taken on Ohio State four times in the past decade, with the last meeting during the 2010-11 season. This weekend's dual marks the third consecutive time the Eagles will square off with a nationally ranked Ohio State. The Buckeyes visit Jones Natatorium with a No. 8 ranking after owning No. 11 and No. 9 rankings in previous match ups.

EMU VERSUS THE BIG TEN:  Three Big Ten Conference opponents grace the 2015-16 slate for the Eagles, including Saturday's opponent, Ohio State. The Green and White opened the season with a 182-118 win over Northwestern and are set to square off with Purdue (Jan. 16) in 2016. The Big Ten has consistently been one of the strongest conferences nationally, currently placing seven in the top-25, the most of any conference.

HENRY ADDS ANOTHER MAC AWARD TO HIS RESUME:  Senior swimmer Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) earned his second conference honor this season after helping the Eagles top Oakland, Nov. 7. Henry won three individual events and anchored a second place relay team in the Eagles victory, accounting for 31 points. The award marks the fifth time in his career Henry has been named Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.

CLOSING IN ON 250:  Head Coach Peter Linn's 27-year tenure at Eastern Michigan has guided the Eagles to a number of successes over the years. Following Saturday's sweep of Oakland, Linn's career record on the women's side sits at 61-35 while he owns a 185-56 at helm for the men. Additionally, the win moves Linn's total coaching record to 246-91,  good for a .729 winning percentage. With plenty of opportunities on the schedule for each of Linn's teams, he could reach the 250 win mark this season.

STACKING UP IN THE MAC:  With two duals under their belt, the Eagles find themselves featured in the Mid-American Conference's top-times of 2015-16. The Green and White appear in the top-three 11 times, including holding the conference's best time in four events. Additionally the Eagles hold three second-ranked times and four third-ranked times. Senior Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston), freshman Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary), and juniors Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) and Marcin Rzyski (Olsztyn, Poland-Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace #4) lead the conference in various events. Holding the top spot in the 200 Freestyle, Henry also ranks second in both the 100 Free and 200 Individual Medley. Bateman holds the top time in the 100 Backstroke just ahead of Kawaguchi's third-ranked time while the two swap rankings in the 200 Back. Rzyski's time of 1:51.34 is the best in the MAC in the 200 Butterfly while senior Erik Gissen (Karlstad, Sweden- Alvkullegymnasiet) ranks third in the 100 Fly.

HENRY REELS IN MAC ACCOLADE:  Senior swimmer Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) was named Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for his role in the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team's win over Northwestern last week, the conference announced Tuesday, Oct. 20. With the honor, Henry is the first EMU swimmer to earn the conference award this season.
A significant piece of the relay team's success, Henry added a pair of individual wins over the Wildcats. In the 200 Freestyle, Henry bested the field by nearly two seconds before wrapping up his fourth win of the day in the 100 Free. Henry's strong opening performance led Eastern Michigan past Northwestern for the first time since 2011.
The announcement marked the fourth time Henry has receieved the honor over the course of his career, with the last award coming, Nov. 10, 2014. The Garner, N.C. product is the first EMU swimmer to earn the honor since Dylan Crompton (Redford, Mich.-Thurston) did so, Feb. 23, 2015.

HOMESTAND ALLOWS EAGLES TO ENJOY COMFORTS OF JONES:  Competing in the friendly confines of Jones Natatorium for the first two months of the season, the Eagles will take part in a trio of non-conference duals before hosting the EMU Invitational, Dec. 4-5. The Green and White boast a 12-1 mark at home over the past three seasons.

KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE:  The Eagles do not compete against a Mid-American Conference opponent in dual action until Jan. 16, 2016 when they travel to Muncie, Ind. for a bout with Ball State. When the Eagles dip into the pool against the Cardinals, they will be seeking their 69th consecutive MAC dual victory. In prepartation for a strong MAC dual season and another championship showing at the 2016 MAC Championships, the Green and White take on stiff competition to begin the season.
