Behind strong performances from Raymond and Fink, the Eagles finished 15th

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) — Led by Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason), the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team finished 15th at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 17, in Louisville, Ky. All seven Eagle harriers finished within one minute of each other, and the team beat No. 30 Texas in the process.
The entire 8,000-meter race was extremely competitive, as the difference between first and 50th place was less than 40 seconds. Raymond was the top finisher for the Green and White, coming in 49th and crossing the finish line in 23:56.0. Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) was right on his tail, as Fink finished 52nd with a time of 23:59.0. The next Eagle to cross the finish line was Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) in 110th with a time of 24:21.8. Right behind Matko was Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge), as he crossed the finish line with a time of 24:23.9 and took 116th. Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven), Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio-Defiance), and John Knox (Gloversville, N.Y. - Gloversville) all finished within 11 seconds of each other, completing the race in 24:35.8, 24:44.0, and 24:46.6, respectively.
The Eagles wrap up their regular season next Friday, Oct. 23, with the annual EMU Fall Classic, followed by the MAC Championships, Oct. 31, in Akron, Ohio.
