DEXTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team completed the 2015 regular season at home with the annual EMU Fall Classic, Friday, Oct. 23 at Hudson Mills Metro Park in Dexter, Mich. The Eagles lineup was comprised primarily of freshmen and younger runners, allowing them to gain more experience before the season comes to a close.

Graduate student Joshua Sabo (Akron, Ohio - Revere) paced the Eagles, finishing the race in fourth-place with a time of 15:13.5. The next Eagle finisher was freshman Brenden Utz (Jackson, Mich. - Michigan Center), who crossed the finish line in 15:34.0 and placed 17th. Sophomore Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. - Hillsborough) and freshman Morgan O'Flahrity (Madison, Wis. - Edgewood) placed 27th and 30th with times of 15:56.3 and 16:00.7, respectively. Both McFarland and O'Flahrity's 5,000-meter times were career-bests. Freshman Adam Beck (Rochester Hills, Mich. - Rochester Adams) was the next Eagle to cross the finish line, as he placed 40th in 16:11.9 and also turned in his best career performance. 

Freshman Alec Keaton (Allen Park, Mich. - Allen Park) made a late push and finished with a time of 16:20.1, good for 43rd and another career-best. Redshirt sophomore Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich. - Owosso) and freshman Christian Lopez (Moreno Valley, Calif. - Vista Del Lago) finished within a second of each other, as Hess crossed the finish line in 16:29.2 while Lopez had a time of 16:30.6. Hess' time bested his previous sesaon-best by over a minute, while Lopez improved his season-best by 30 seconds. The final two finishers were freshmen Roman Blackwell (Jackson, Mich. - Jackson) and David Saporito (Warren, Mich. - Warren Mott), who had tiems of 16:36.4 and 17:01.0, respectively. The race marked Blackwell's EMU debut while Saporito turned in the best time of his career.

Head Coach John Goodridge enjoyed seeing some of his newcomers race well. Specifically, he stated " I enjoyed watching Ben Utz and Josh Sabo race with such confidence. Both have been adjusting well to our training and making steady progress."

The Eagles now begin the postseason portion of their schedule, with the Mid-American Conference Championships taking place Saturday, Oct. 31, in Akron, Ohio. Following the conference championship, the NCAA Great Lakes Regional is next on the slate, Friday, Nov. 13, in Madison, Wis.
