KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com)
—The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up its third day of competition in the Tennessee Relays, April 12, at the University of Tennessee.  Continuing with the success from the previous two days, the Green and White either won or placed second in four of the seven events in which the team competed.

The Eagles started off strong in the first event, notching a 1-2 finish in the 3000m steeplechase as Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) and Daryl Smith (Windsor, Ontario-Vincent Massey SS) claimed the winning and runner-up spots in 9:03.30 and 9:12.91, respectively.  In the next event, the 4x100m relay, the team of Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower), Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa.-Greater Latrobe Senior), Chris Scott (Holt, Mich.-Holt), and Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) took second in 40.42, just .09 seconds behind the winning team from Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State University.

Similar success came in the distance medley relay and the 4x400m relay.  The DMR team of Smith, Fink, Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington) and Grzegorz Kalinowski (Torun, Poland-Nicolaus Copernicus University) claimed the final victory of the day for the Green and White in 9:55.11, while the 4x400m relay team of Bolton, Brown, Elam, and Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wisc.-Bradford) took runner-up in 3:08.35.

Three individual events took place on the field, led by the pair of Aaron Benton (Dryden, Mich.-Almont) and James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit).  Benton cleared a height of 2.10 meters/6 feet 10.75-inches in the high jump, which ties for the ninth-best mark in EMU history.  O'Shea also notched a personal-best on the afternoon, jumping 2.05 meters/6 feet 8.75-inches.  In the long jump, Brown placed in the top-10 with a 7.12-meter/23-foot 4.50-inch leap.  As the final individual performer, Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) finished seventh in the javelin throw with a personal record mark of 62.73 meters/205 feet 10-inches.

The Eagles will stay closer to home for the next week of competition, traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University, April 18-19.
