COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team wrapped up its weekend of competition with the final day of the Jesse Owens Track Classic, April 19, in Columbus, Ohio.

The squad saw the bulk of its success on the field, earning two individual victories and two runner-up finishes.  Continuing with a strong senior campaign, Max Babits (Howell, Mich.-Fowlerville) won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.30 meters/17 feet 4.50-inches, just two inches off his personal and EMU school record.

Also coming close to matching a personal-best was Aaron Benton (Dryden, Mich.-Almont), who won the high jump with a height of 2.09 meters/6 feet 10.25-inches, just one half inch away from his best mark.  Coming in second behind Benton was James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit), jumping 2.06 meters/6 feet 9.00-inches.

In the triple jump, freshman Javion Lee (Clinton, Miss.-Clinton) took second with a mark of 14.89 meters/48 feet 10.25-inches just behind Mid-American Conference foe Kent State's Jailyn Twitty.  Lee set a personal-best with the jump and qualified for competition at the 2014 MAC Outdoor Championships, May 15-17.

Three more events took place on the field in the tightly-contested long jump, hammer throw, and shot put.  Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) took 16th in the long jump, going 6.53 meters/21 feet 5.25-inches.  In the hammer throw, Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill.-Williamsville) took 18th with a throw of 56.83 meters/186 feet 5-inches while teammate Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky) set a personal record at 54.81 meters/179 feet 10-inches to qualify the pair for MAC meet competition.  Freshman Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio-River Valley) paced the Green and White in the shot put, giving a 16.07-meter/52-foot 8.75-inch launch for 15th

On the track, Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower), Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa.-Greater Latrobe Senior), Chris Scott (Holt, Mich.-Holt) and Wayne Blanchard (Toledo, Ohio-St. Francis de Sales) took fourth in the 4x100m to open up events for the harriers, finishing in 41.01.  Scott went on to take third in the 100m dash in 10.75, pacing a personal-best 10.95-second finish for Blanchard.  The pair competed once more in the 200m with Scott leading the way once more in 21.67 for ninth as Blanchard set another PR in 22.22 seconds.

Setting a personal record in the 400m, Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wisc.-Bradford)'s time of 49.12 earned him 12th, followed up by a 49.28-second finish from Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington).  In the mid-distance 800m run, Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview) took 15th in 1:54.53.

Elam placed eighth in the 400m hurdles in 52.95, a time which qualifies him for the MAC meet, and the pair of Ijah and Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) competed in the 110m hurdles, recording times of 14.98 and 15.49, respectively.  The meet closed out with Elam running the first leg of the 4x400m relay, followed by Ervin, Waynes, and Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairfield Senior) to take seventh in 3:16.75.

For the next weekend of competition, the Eagles will split up among three different meets from Thursday, Aril 24 to Saturday, April 26.  Part of the team will stay in-state for the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., while others will travel to Des Moines Iowa for the Drake Relays and Philadelphia, Pa. for the legendary Penn Relays.
