YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
After a week off, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team makes its spring break trip out west to Colorado to face off in a pair of duals against the United States Air Force Academy. The first dual will take place on the base, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. MT while the finale between the two programs is set for Saturday, March 1, at 6 p.m. MT in Center Gym.

Meyers Comes Through in the Clutch: With just one floor routine remaining in the entire meet, the pressure was on redshirt-junior Kaylee Meyers to complete her exercise without a fall. If she was successful, the Eagles would take down in-state rival Western Michigan, but a fall would give the MAC dual victory to the Broncos. With her team's outcome all on her shoulders, the EMU gymnast delivered with an outstanding 9.850 in the event to lift Eastern to a 194.500-194.125 decision and the Eagles' first conference win of the 2014 campaign.

The Streak is Over: With a 194.500-194.125 win over in-state rival Western Michigan, Feb. 15, the Green and White snapped a 10-meet losing streak within the conference. Prior to the victory over the Broncos, the last time the Eagles won a MAC regular season matchup was March 10, 2012, when EMU topped Northern Illinois, 193.850-192.075.

Focus on the Falcons: Air Force enters the week with a 3-6 record, coming off a second-place finish at the Lindenwood Triangular, Feb. 23. The Falcons have seen improvements throughout the season, earning higher scores than the previous meet leading up a season-high 193.625 in the Lindenwood Triangular. Air Force is led by senior Linnaea Hance, who recorded an all around total of 38.875 in Sunday's meet. She also earned a 9.825 on the beam as well as a personal-best 9.850 on the bars to take third.

Nearing the Goal: The goal for the EMU gymnastics team all season long has been to record a team score of 195.000 or higher during a meet. While the Eagles have been unable to reach the lofty expectation thus far, they have been close on several occasions. At the Michigan/Illinois Challenge, Feb. 1, Eastern tallied its highest score in the last decade with a 194.800. Head Coach Steve Wilce's squad has been able to maintain scores above 194.000 in the two meets since the challenge.  The Green and White earned a 194.600 in a setback to Central Michigan, Feb. 7, before defeating Western Michigan, Feb. 15, with a mark of 194.500. Through the last three competitions, EMU has averaged an impressive 194.633 to continue to reach for the goal of 195.000.

Eagle Invitational on the Horizon: Following back-to-back meets at Air Force, Eastern will return home to host the annual Eagle Invitational Saturday, March 8. Air Force will travel east to square off against the Eagles for a third time while Northern Illinois and Temple will also compete to round out the quadrangular meet. The action will begin at 7 p.m. in Bowen Field House.
