USAF ACADEMY, Colo. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell 193.225-193.675 to the United States Air Force Academy in a Wednesday night dual, Feb. 26, on the military base in Colorado. The Eagles drop to 3-7 on the season with the setback, and the Falcons improve to 4-6 with the victory.
Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.-North Harford) led the Eagles in three of the four events, tallying 9.775 on vault, bars and beam. Carrina Lo Bello (Oshawa, Ontario-McLaughlin Collegiate) tied Willette for the meet's highest score on vault, and the mark was also a career high for the junior gymnast. In the other event, redshirt-junior Chantelle Loehner (Cary, Ill.-Cary-Grove) paced the Green and White on the floor with a 9.800, tying for the best score with Air Force's Jessica Walland.
EMU's best event of the night was vault with a team score of 48.650. After the pair of 9.775s from Lo Bello and Willette, Paulina Miller (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) added a season-high 9.725 while Kimberly Ebeyer (Greenwood, Ind.-Whiteland Community) recorded a 9.700.
Team co-captain Ashley Quinton (Calgary, Alberta-Bishop McNally) followed Willette on bars by receiving a 9.750 from the judges. Lo Bello eclipsed the 9.700 mark for the second time on the night with a 9.725, knotting her season-best on the apparatus.
The Eagles outscored Air Force on beam, 48.350-48.250. Willette's third 9.775 of the evening led the way followed by a 9.675 from redshirt-junior Kaylee Meyers (Saint Joseph, Mo.-Central). Ebeyer and Lo Bello each notched 9.650 in the rotation.
Like she has done in previous meets, Meyers put up a high mark on floor as her 9.775 was just behind Loehner's 9.800 for the top scores in the exercise.
Air Force's Linnaea Hance was the only gymnast to compete in every event as she earned a 38.175 all-around total, including the highest scores on bars (9.850) and beam (9.825).
Eastern will try to earn a split on the road trip out west with another chance to knock off the Falcons, March 1. The dual will begin Saturday night at 6 p.m. MT.
