Men's Cross Country Heads to Terre Haute for Pre-National Invitational

Eagles will run in the largest meet of the season thus far

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's cross country team is set to take on the field at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational Saturday, Oct. 18 in Terre Haute, Ind.  Indiana State University will be the site of the 2014 NCAA Championships, so the Eagles will have the chance to run the course before the national meet is held on Nov. 22.  The men will compete in the seeded Blue Race at 11:35 a.m., while some athletes will also compete in the Open Race at 2:05 p.m.

The Eagles look to improve on last year's performance, when they took 40th with 913 points.  Warren Witchell (Williamston, Mich.-Dansville) paced the team as the only top-100 finisher, taking 85th in 24:29.99.  This year, the field will consist of 45 teams, including:  Air Force, Akron, Baylor, Bradley, Butler, California, Central Arkansas, No. 1 Colorado, No. 22 Colorado State, Cornell, Duke, Eastern Michigan, No. 26 Furman, Georgetown, Houston, Indiana State, Iowa, IUPUI, Kansas, La Salle, Lehigh, Liberty, Lipscomb, Louisville, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana State, No. 28 North Carolina State, North Texas, Ohio, Ohio State, No. 2 Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Southern Illinois, No. 21 Southern Utah, No. 30 Texas, Texas Tech, No. 29 
Tulsa, UC Santa Barbara, UT Arlington, Washington State, Wichita State, Wyoming, and Yale.

All 45 teams are ranked in their respective regions, with two teams (defending national champion Colorado and Oregon) at the top of the standings in their regions and eight programs in the top-30 nationally.  Eastern Michigan is the highest ranked team competing from the Great Lakes Region at sixth, followed by Butler, Indiana State, Akron, IUPUI, Ohio State, Ohio, and Purdue.  

Action will kick off for the day with the Women's Blue Race at 11 a.m., followed by the elite Men's Blue Race at 11:35 a.m.
