EMU Seeks 31st Conference Title
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will look to repeat last season's triumph at the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 7-9, in Carbondale, Illinois. This will be the Eagles first ever visit to the Edward J. Shea Natatorium located on the campus of Southern Illinois University. Competition will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7.
The Green and White claimed its 30th MAC title last season in Oxford, Ohio. The victory earned coach Peter Linn his 22nd conference title. Troy Esentan, Jacob Hanson, Jeffrey Craig, Franco Petrone and Andrew Saunders were named to the All-MAC first team, while Michael Swain, Brian Moore and Mike Fisher earned second team accolades. Buck Smith was tabbed the 2012 MAC Diving Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. Craig was named Most Outstanding Diver at least year's MAC Championships.
EMU has won 11 of the last 13 championships and has placed in the top two at the MAC tournament every year dating back to 1979.
The Eagles, undefeated in MAC duel-meets, look strong heading into the three day tournament. This year's squad brings back Hanson, Craig, Petrone, Saunders, Swain, Moore, and Fisher. The emergence of Tyler Capen and Tom Coats, and the addition of dynamic freshmen Krzysztof Gilski, Brad Lebling, and Erik Gissen bolster an already formidable roster.
