YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a dual-meet with the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan Wolverines Friday, Jan. 11. The competition is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Canham Natatorium.
The last time EMU and U-M squared off was during the 2010-11 season when the Eagles fell in Ann Arbor to the then No. 13-ranked Wolverines, 141-98. Eastern won just two events on the afternoon, with wins by Andrew Saunders in both the one and three-meter dives. On the one meter boards, the Green and White swept the podium with Saunders taking first with a score of 328.88, followed by Jeffrey Craig placing second (310.50) and Mitch Kellerman taking third (285.60). Jacob Hanson added two second-place performances on the afternoon in both the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke. In the 200 IM, he finished in 1:55.01, just 0.61 seconds behind Michigan's Tony Wahl.
Eastern has never defeated its neighbor to the West, going 0-28 all-time against Michigan. The first meeting between these two teams was back in the 1970-71 season when then-Head Coach Mike Jones led the then-Hurons to a National Assosciation of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship. That season, EMU fell to Michigan, 84-39.
