ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team dropped a dual-meet to the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan Friday, Jan. 11. The Eagles fell, 196-133, in Ann Arbor. Nine previously held United States records for the 20-yard pool length were broken in a format not officially used since 1965. Records indicate that year was the last in recognizing American records for swims done in a 20-yard pool, and today, several of those times were unofficially eradicated from the record books.

Naturally, the times swum in the meet will not count for ranking or NCAA championship qualification purposes, even for races such as the 500 free, 100 breast and 200 back.

Jacob Hanson pulled out a first place finish in the 200-backstroke, which was the first win of the day for EMU. Hanson touched the wall in 1:45.82, almost three seconds faster than the second place finisher, breaking the American mark of 2:04.0, as did six of the other seven swimmers in the race.

Andrew Saunders was the next to finish in the top-two, taking second in the one-meter dive with 297.29, less than one point behind the winner. Jeffrey Craig took the only other first place finish with a 386.41 in the three-meter dive.

Dexter Foos brought home a second place finish with a 46.27 finish in the 100-freestyle, while Brian Moore brought home a third place finish in the 100-freestyle, completing the distance in 46.40. Gus Everson took fourth in the 100 with a 47.37.

Mike Swain took second in the 200-breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:01.23, while Mike Fisher hit the finish line in 2:08.53, good for third. Blake how earned second by completing the 40-backstroke in 18.73. Aaron Lawson hit the wall in 1:56.84, to take second in the 200-butterfly. Swain later earned a second place finish in the 160-individual medley with a time of 1:27.15.

Eastern hits the pool again Saturday, Jan. 19, when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State University.
