Men's Swimming and Diving wins 61st straight MAC dual meet

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team won its 61st straight Mid-American Conference dual meet, swimming past Ball State, 159-130, Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatic Center, Jan. 19.

The Eagles won 9-of-16 events on the afternoon. Jacob Hanson, Michael Swain, Erik Gissen and Dexter Foos teamed up to take the 200 medley relay in 1:33.65. Hanson also took home a win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.70.

Freshman Andrew Henry won the 1000 freestyle with Frankie DeMaria finishing runner-up in the race before taking the 500 freestyle. Another EMU freshman, Krzysztof Gilski, took top honors with a 1:43.94 in the 200 freestyle, just ahead of Franco Petrone.

The Green and White swept the top three spots in the 200 butterfly. Senior Michael Kinross finished out in front in 1:55.90 as Brian Moore and Aaron Lawson finished second and third, respectively. EMU would go on to take the top three spots in the 200 backstroke as well with Tyler Capen winning the race, Swain taking second, and Petrone finishing third.

Oded Ivry's 47.84 time was good enough for first in the 100 freestyle.

In diving competition, Andrew Saunders won the three-meter dive with a score of 334.95. Jeffrey Craig placed runner-up, and Matt Ventura took third for the Eagles.

EMU will be back in the pool next Saturday, Jan. 26, to take on the Buffalo Bulls in Buffalo at 1 p.m.
