BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving secured its 62nd consecutive Mid-American Conference dual-meet victory Saturday, Jan. 26, against the University at Buffalo, 151.5-148.5. The meet came down to the final event, but EMU (4-2; 2-0 MAC) was able to hold on for the win on a day when senior Jacob Hanson set a UB pool record in the 200-backstroke.

With the meet hanging in the balance, Buffalo needed a first and a second or third place finish in the 400-freestyle relay to win. The Bulls walked away with first place, but the Eagles locked up the second and third spots to deny the home team a dual-meet win.

Hanson won three events on the afternoon which included his record-breaking performance of 1:47.06 in the 200-backstroke. The Bloomington, Ill. also claimed victory in the 100-backstroke (48.57) and 200-IM (1:50.63).

In all, EMU swimmers were victorious in nine events. Freshman Andrew Henry led the way in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:40.26. Henry's sophomore teammate Brian Moore was just a fraction of a second behind Henry at 1:40.33 for runner-up honors.

Krzysztof Gilski came through with a first-place finish in the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:49.27. In third place was senior Michael Kinross who turned in a 1:54.41 performance.

Senior Michael Swain cruised past the competition in the 200-breaststroke, winning by more than two seconds with a pace of 2:02.89. Sophomore Mike Fisher used a time of 2:06.19 to claim third in the event.

The 500-freestyle went to Henry, who won his second event of the day in 4:37.33. Gilski was a close second to Henry, touching the wall in 4:37.47.

EMU made a splash in a pair of diving events as seniors Jeffrey Craig and Andrew Saunders traded first and second place in the one-meter and three-meter dives. Craig used a score of 302.18 and Saunders 284.70 to take the top two spots in the one-meter. The roles reversed in the three-meter with Saunders scoring 375.68 compared to 371.70 for Craig.

The Eagles continue their MAC slate Saturday, Feb. 2, when they host Miami University at Jones Natatorium. The dual-meet gets underway at 1 p.m.
