MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com)
— Behind wins in six events from senior Jacob Hanson, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team finished second at the FIU Invitational in Miami, Fla., Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5.

The Eagles' 756 points were good enough for the runner-up position behind Texas Christian University who won the invite with 946 points. Marauder Swim Club finished in a distant third with 368.50 points followed by the Florida Institute of Technology, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Coe College, who finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Hanson was the star swimmer throughout the afternoon, winning four events individually while helping the 200-yard medley relay team and 200-freestyle relay team take home victories. Aside from winning the 50-yard butterfly (23.15), the 50-backstroke (23.55), the 100-individual medley (52.00), Hanson swam to the top of the podium in the 100-backstoke with a time of 49.39, the fourth-best time in EMU history.

The Green and White swept the top-three spots in the 200-freestyle race. Krzysztof Gilski won the event in 1:42.94 while teammates Andrew Henry and Brian Moore took second and third, respectively. Gilski also won the 500-freestyle ahead of fellow Eagle Franco Petrone and finished runner-up to Hanson in the 50-yard butterfly. Henry and Moore switched places in the 100-freestyle as Moore finished second and Henry placed third.

Senior Michael Swain won the 100-breaststroke with a time of 58.03. He continued a strong afternoon with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50-butterfly and and 100-individual medley.

Junior Gus Everson was a member of the victorious 200-freestyle relay team. Individually, Everson placed second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Eastern continues its 2012-13 campaign Friday, Jan. 11, when they travel across Washtenaw County to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a dual-meet with the University of Michigan. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
