Eastern tops Ball State at the Lewellen Aquatic Center

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team won its fourth straight Mid-American Conference dual-meet of the 2012-13 campaign, 158-142, against Ball State University Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Eagles are now 6-0 in dual-meets and 4-0 in MAC dual-meets this season.
Briana Emig set the tone for EMU in the second race of the afternoon, taking home the crown in the 1,000-freestyle with a time of 10:17.63. Audra Burtch and Wesley Blassneck finished behind Emig for second and third in 10:20.74 and 10:36.30, respectively. Emig also earned a second place finish in the 200-freestyle with a 1:54.26, just two seconds shy of Haley Richter's first place time of 1:52.26. Monica Dorszewski took third in that race, touching the wall in 1:54.42.
Sara Ghaffari was the next top-three finisher for EMU as she placed second in the 200-backstroke with a 58.83. Lauren Kalinosky earned a third place finish in the 100-breaststroke in 1:07.32. EMU did not see the top of the podium again until the 200-butterfly when Jessie Godlewski finished over three seconds ahead of the field in 2:03.33, which is a top-10 all-time finish in that race for Eastern. Mary Kate Maclean kept EMU rolling with a top-finish in the 50-freestyle. Maclean touched the wall in 23.96.
On the diving boards, Danielle Hulvey and Kelly Hendricks finished 1-2 in the one-meter dive with scores of 285.15 and 278.47. In the three-meter dive, Hulvey, Christina Nunez-Wood and Hendricks finished 1-2-3 with scores of 301.05, 288.90 and 282.07.
Godlewski saw another first-place finish as she touched the wall first in the 200-backstroke, completing the distance in 2:05.16, while Helena Tolic placed third in that race with a finish of 2:05.16. Emig earned another 500-freestyle victory, touching the wall in 5:05.80. Blassneck finished almost five seconds behind Emig in 5:10.72, good for second, while Clarice Daniel took third in 5:11.16.
Godlewski saw her third and final first place finish in the 200-individual medley. Godlewski touched the wall in 2:06.50, while Jacquelyn Swartz earned second place in 2:08.53.
Eastern hits the water again Saturday, Jan. 26, when they travel to the University at Buffalo for a 1 p.m. dual-meet with the Bulls. The Eagles will look to make it five straight MAC dual-meet victories.
