YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
After a weekend of road triumphs, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team brings the positive momentum back to Ypsilanti for games against Bowling Green State University Friday, Sept. 28, and Central Michigan University Sunday, Sept. 30.

Friday's tilt is set for a 4 p.m. start at Scicluna Field, while Sunday's affair will begin at 1 p.m. The Eagles (5-3-1; 2-0 MAC) have won their previous two home matches and have claimed victory in four of their last five games overall.

THE FALCONER: Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green meet up for the 20th time Friday, Sept. 28, with the Eagles holding a 10-8-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Green and White is looking to avenge a 2-1 overtime loss on the road to the Falcons from last season.  EMU's most recent win against BGSU came in a wild 6-4 contest at Scicluna Field during the 2010 campaign.

Bowling Green started MAC play with a 0-1-1 weekend including a scoreless draw with Kent State and a 1-0 loss to Ohio. The Falcons enter Friday's contest tied for third in the MAC East Division and own a 1-8-1 overall record.

CHIP DIP:  In-state rival and MAC West Divison foe Central Michigan comes to Ypsilanti for second consecutive year. The Chippewas won both of their games in the opening weekend and share first place in the division with the Eagles and Ball State University. CMU begins the second weekend of the MAC season with an overall record of 6-3-1.

Despite losing a 1-0 decision in the final game of the 2011 regular season to the Chippewas, the Eagles have enjoyed overall success in the all-time series with CMU, posting a 9-4-2 record.

ANYTIME, ANYPLACE:  The Eagles made an emphatic return to the top of the MAC West Division standings with road wins against Northern Illinois University, Sept. 21, and defending MAC Champion University of Toledo, Sept. 23. EMU shutout both clubs by scores of 1-0 and 3-0, respectively.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jenna O'Dell played a complete 180 minutes of scoreless soccer, making 11 saves over the two games. Sophomore Bianca Rossi scored a goal in both games including the game-winner on a penalty kick against the Huskies. Junior midfielder Cara Cutaia turned in an other-worldly performance against Toledo, scoring two goals and adding an assist for a five-point day.

Eastern Michigan was one-of-three West Division teams (CMU and BSU) to win both games over the weekend and share a tie for first place in the division as a result. Miami University was the only team from the MAC East Division to start 2-0.

IT'S KIND OF A BIG DEAL: Sunday's road victory against the Rockets carries special meaning for more reasons than one. For starters, the victory gave the Eagles a 2-0 record in MAC play for the first time since 2000, when the Green and White opened up with wins against UT and CMU. In addition, the Eagles had not enjoyed a victory in the Glass City since the team won the MAC regular season title in 2003.

Jenna O'Dell earned her second consecutive shutout against the Rockets to mark the first time since 2010 that an EMU goalkeeper (Monique Budani) accomplished the feat. O'Dell now has three shutouts on the year and has lowered her goals against average to 1.08.

CUTAIA BLASTS OFF VS ROCKETS: A hard-fought team victory Sunday against Toledo turned out to be even more rewarding for junior midfielder Cara Cutaia, who scored the game's first two goals and assisted on the third goal to notch a five-point outing. Cutaia's point total tied Stephanie Clarke and several former players for the third-most points in a single game in EMU history. The Burlington, Ontario native is tied with Bianca Rossi for the most points on the team (12). She has four goals and four assists on the season and has already surpassed her previous career-high point total of eight.

For her efforts, Cutaia was named to the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Sept. 17-23. She was one of 13 players to crack the weekly list put out by collegesoccer360.com and was the only MAC representative for the week.

MORE TO COME FROM SCICLUNA: Following this weekend's contests against BGSU and CMU, the Eagles have three home games remaining on their 2012 slate. EMU will entertain Ohio University, Oct. 12, and Kent State University, Oct. 14, before closing out the regular season at Scicluna Field, Oct. 25, versus Western Michigan University.

Should the Eagles finish the regular season ranked in the top-four, they will host a MAC Tournament quarterfinal match Sunday, Oct. 28, against an opponent determined by seeding.
