SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team carded a 298 in the final round of the Red Rocks Invitational to capture a 14-stroke victory in the 20-team field here Sunday, March 4, on the par-72, 6,084-yard Oakcreek Country Club course. The Eagles posted a score of 603 for the tournament (305-297). Seattle University finished second with a 617 (309-308) and Xavier University was third with a team total of 619 (312-307).

The victory marked the 17th title in the program's 16-year history. It is also the 13th team championship during Head Coach Sandy Wagner's seven-year tenure as head coach. Additionally, the two-day total ranks fourth best in school-history, and is the lowest since the squad tallied a 597 (300-297) during the fall campaign at the weather-shortened Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2011.

EMU finished with seven players in the tournament's top 25, including junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) who tied for second place after firing a 150 (79-71). Her two-round total is tied for the 13th lowest 36-hole mark in the program's history, and the best of her career. Additionally, Fairbairn's second round 71 marked the first round of her career under-par. Overall the second place finish is her second top five finish in 17 career events.

Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) both finishing tied for fifth place at 152. Johnson recorded rounds of 79 and 73, while Kwon fired a 75 and a 77.

Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) carded a 153 (73-80) to finish tied for ninth place out of 116 individuals. Warners' top 10 showing was her fourth in seven events in 2011-12. Junior Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa- Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) was the final Eagle in the starting rotation to place in the top 20, finishing tied for 18th with a 36-hole total of 155 (78-77).
