Eagles Conclude Action at OSU Winter Invite

— Four members of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team competed at the Ohio State University Winter Invitational this weekend, Feb. 11-12.

Tyler Capen, Josh Leary, Dan Proctor and Nate Schingoethe swam for the Eagles in an invite which featured a challenging field of competition, including No. 17 Purdue, Penn State, No. 9 Ohio State, No. 12 Louisville and No. 4 Michigan.

In Saturday's events, Schingoethe and Capen finished 9-10 in the 100 backstroke. Schingoethe posted a time of 52.08 in the preliminary round before taking ninth in the finals in 52.36. Capen raced to a 54.38 in the prelims and a 58.40 for 10th in the final.

Capen would also compete in the 100 breaststroke, recording a time of 1:01.07 for a 13th place finish, and teammate Proctor placed eighth in the finals after completing the distance in 58.34.

Leary finished 12th in that same event with a 1:00.44 effort.

In today's action, Schingoethe swam to a fifth-place, 1:54.49 finish in the 200 backstroke.

Proctor competed in both the 200 individual medley and the 200 breaststroke. The lone participant in the 200 IM, he finished the event in 1:55.51. He would take sixth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:06.86, while Leary placed eighth after touching the wall in 2:11.60.

The Eagles will return to action for the 2012 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on March 1-3.
