YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming team is leading the 2012 EMU Invitational after the opening day of competition. Eastern has scored 395 points, while Oakland University sits in second with 338, Wayne State University is third with 249 and the University of Findlay is fourth with 114.
Briana Emig led the Eagles with a first place finish in the 1,650 freestyle, touching the wall in 16:09.94. Emig also helped EMU to a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.80. Also helping Emig in the 400 relay was Jessie Godlewski, Sara Ghaffari and Mary Kate Maclean. Maclean also posted a first place finish with a 50.99 in the 100 freestyle.
Monica Dorszewski, Vanessa Weidner and Lauren Kalinosky finished 1-2-3 in the 200 breaststroke. Dorszewski hit the wall in 2:18.67, while Weidner and Kalinosky touched in 2:19.96 and 2:21.16, respectively.
Godlewski set the pace in the 200 butterfly, taking first in 1:58.35, which was a new Jones Natatorium and EMU Invite record.
On the diving boards, Kelly Hendricks took second and Karley Taylor placed third with scores of 307.85 and 277.75, respectively, in the one-meter dive.
The EMU Invitational continues Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. at Jones Natatorium for the morning session. The evening session will again start at 7 p.m.
