Eagles win second straight of 2012-13 season

DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team won its second straight meet of the 2012 campaign with a 164-79 victory over Wayne State University Friday, Nov. 2. The Eagles (2-0) won 10-of-13 events as Brian Moore captured first place in three events and a host of other EMU swimmers won two apiece.
After the Warriors won the opening event—the 200-yard medley—the Green and White rattled off three consecutive first-place finishes in the 1000-yard free, the 200-yard free and the 50-yard free. Krzysztof Gilski easily captured top honors in the 1000, winning with a time of 9:29.66 which was a shade over 30 seconds better than Ricky Linder, who took second (9:59.86). Finishing third was Frankie Demaria with a time of 10:04.86.
In the 200, Brian Moore (1:42.68) and Franco Petrone placed first and second, respectively. Erik Gissen took fourth place with at time of 1:46.18. EMU swimmers locked down the top four spots in the 50 with Dexter Foos finishing first with a time of 21.59 seconds. Gus Everson (22.14) and Oded Ivry (22.26) were second and third, respectively.
Gilski won his second event of the day when his time of 1:54.64 was the top performance in the 200-yard butterfly. EMU swimmers also took second and third place with Michael Kinross finishing in 1:56.38 and Aaron Lawson in 1:56.44. The 100-yard freestyle belonged to Moore (46.79), while Andrew Henry (47.25) finished runner-up and Gisson (47.90) claimed third place.
Jacob Hanson edged out Wayne State's Luca Vilanova to win the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:49.17. In the 500-yard freestyle, Franco Petrone's 4:40.78 performance was good for first place, while Michael Swain (4:42.71), Ricky Linder (4:45.49) and Sean Tento (4:57.79) took third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
EMU swimmers earned their final victory of the afternoon by capturing the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Everson, Foos, Ivry and Moore won the event with a time of 1:24.58.
The diving squad was responsible for two of Eastern Michigan's 10 wins on the afternoon. Jeff Craig was victorious in the one-meter dive with a score of 326.78. Andrew Saunders (284.03) and Keelan Tyler (279.30) placed third and fourth, respectively. Craig also notched a win in the three-meter dive (336.30) as the Eagles swept the top-four places in that event.
The Eagles are back in action Saturday, Nov. 10, when they take on Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.
