Swimming and Diving Heads to Wayne State for Dual Meet

The Eagles take on the Warriors for the second-straight season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Detroit, Mich. for a coed dual-meet with the Wayne State University Warriors Friday, Nov. 2. The meet will be held on the campus of Wayne State at 5 p.m. Last season the Eagles hosted the Warriors for a coed dual-meet Friday, Jan. 20, and defeated them on both the men's and women's side.
The women topped WSU, 134-104, with Briana Emig collecting three first place finishes on the day. She was the top-time in the 1,000 Freestyle (10:21.82) and 500 Free (5:00.61) and also posted the program's ninth-fastest time in the 200 Freestyle event (1:51.67). Jessie Godlewski also earned multiple first place finishes for the Eagles. She was the fastest performer in the 200 IM, completing the event in 2:07.12, and took first in the 200 Backstroke in 2:06.61.
Kelly Hendricks took first on the three-meter after recording the evening's top score of 336.45. Christina Nunez-Wood was runner up with 297.30 points, and Danielle Hulvey placed third with 290.17. Hulvey took the one-meter dive with her 290.55 points, while Hendricks placed second with 267.75.
On the men's side, EMU took down the Warriors, 143-98. Jacob Hanson earned multiple first-place finishes, with top-times in both the 200 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. He completed the backstroke event with sixth-fastest time in program history after touching the wall at 1:48.87. He would also pace the Eagles in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.14. Troy Esentan and Michael Swain later captured first place finishes of their own, with Esentan pacing the all competitors in the 500 Freestyle (4:41.02) and Swain completing the 200 Breaststroke in 2:05.33.
EMU would sweep both the one and three-meter boards behind first place performances from Andrew Saunders. He led the Eagles with a 339.30 mark on the one-meter dive and placed first on the three-meter after tallying 345.37 points for the Eagles. Tyler Keelean was runner-up in both events, garnering scores of 283.20 and 299.77 in each respective event.
