Eagles drop Wayne State for second-straight dual meet victory

DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team won its second-straight dual meet of the 2012-13 season Friday, Nov. 2, when it traveled to Detroit to take on the Wayne State University Warriors. The Eagles topped Wayne State, 157-86.
The Green and White was led by its divers Kelly Hendricks and Danielle Hulvey who finished 1-2 in both the one and three-meter dives. In the one-meter, Hendricks took first with a score of 309.22, while Hulvey's 286.42 was good for second. Hendricks' barely edged Hulvey in the three-meter with a 287.70, to Hulvey's 286.13.
Jessie Godlewski helped EMU to the victory, picking up a first place finish in the 100-freestyle, in 53.30. Godlewski was an important part of a pair of relay teams for EMU in the meet. She was the anchor in the 200-freestyle relay, along with Sara Ghaffari, Maddie MacLean and Jackie Swartz, that took first with a 1:38.68. She also helped the 200-medley relay team to a second place finish, combined with Helena Tolic, Irene Llorente and Maddie MacLean, with a 1:48.81.
The Eagles went 1-2-3 in the 200-breaststroke. Vanessa Weidner placed first (2:23.85), Briana Emig took second (2:25.71), while Llorente taking third (2:25.91). Emig was also able to place first in the 1,000-freestyle, touching the wall in 10:20.55, while teammate Audra Burtch posted a second place finish in 10:29.72. Becca Detro and Wesley Blassneck took first and second in the 200-freestyle, finishing in 1:55.94 and 1:59.21, respectively.
Lauren Kalinosky also posted a first place finish for EMU with a 2:11.04 finish in the 200-individual medley.
The EMU women's swimming and diving team continues its 2012-13 campaign Saturday, Nov. 3, when it plays host to the Toledo Rockets for a Mid-American Conference dual meet at 1 p.m. in Jones Natatorium.
