YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2012-13 campaign with a dual-meet victory against Northwestern University Friday, Oct. 19. The Eagles were able to oust the Wildcats, 157-141, avenging a 130-165 loss from a year ago. It was the first time the Green and White had been able to top Northwestern since the 2002-03 season.
The meet opened up with the 200-medley relay, where Eastern was able to take six points by placing a pair of teams in the top-three. Franco Petrone and Sean Tento placed second and third in the 1,000-freestyle earning seven points for the Eagles. Petrone touched the wall in 9:49.71, while Tento raced to a 9:55.08 finish. Brian Moore earned a first-place finish in the 200-freestyle for EMU touching the wall in 1:40.64.
Jacob Hanson earned three first place finishes in the meet with the Wildcats. His 49-second finish in the 100-backstroke was good for first, while he was the top-finisher in both the 200-individual medley (1:49.98) and 200-backstroke (1:50.83). Michael Swain placed first in the 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke with finishes of 58.79 and 2:06.43. Freshman Krzysztof Gilski notched first place after touching the wall in 51.01 for the 100-butterfly.
On the diving boards, the Eagles were dominant. Andrew Saunders earned a first place finish in the one-meter with a score of 300.08, while placing second in the three-meter with a tally of 327.01. Jeffrey Craig took first in the three-meter (338.03), while taking second in the one-meter (296.25).
Eastern returns to the water Friday, Nov. 2, when it travels to Detroit, Mich. for a showdown with Wayne State University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
