YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team once again hits the road for games at the University at Buffalo Friday, Oct. 19, and the University of Akron Sunday, Oct. 21. Friday's match with the Bulls gets underway at 7 p.m., in Buffalo, N.Y., while Sunday's game starts at 1 p.m. in Akron, Ohio.

Eastern Michigan (8-6-1; 5-3-0 MAC) enters the weekend second in the Mid-American Conference West Division and fourth overall in the conference with three regular-season games remaining on the 2012 schedule.

A WIN AND WE'RE IN: Eastern Michigan is one win away from clinching a playoff berth after missing out in 2011. That means the Green and White need just one victory this weekend against Buffalo or Akron to lock down a top-eight seeding. Heading into the weekend, the Eagles occupy fourth place in the conference with 15 points (1.88 points per game); one point behind third-place Kent State and one ahead of fifth-place Ball State.

In order to secure home-field advantage in the MAC Tournament quarterfinal, Oct. 28, EMU will have to earn one of the top four spots. Miami University is currently in first place with 24 points, while Central Michigan University (21) and KSU (16) round out the top-three.

THE WEEKEND AHEAD: The Green and White treks to Buffalo for a rare MAC night game, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The Bulls have struggled this season, posting a 4-10-2 overall record and a 2-5-1 mark in the MAC for a ninth-place seeding in the conference. All-time against UB, Eastern Michigan has enjoyed a 9-4-4 record over 17 meetings.

The road trip continues Sunday, Oct. 21, at Akron beginning at 1 p.m. EMU and the Zips will battle for a 12th time, with the Eagles dominating the all-time series, 7-2-2. Akron (5-10-0) has just one MAC win against seven losses and holds down the 11th spot in the conference.

STANDINGS SCRAMBLE: Due to a canceled game between Ohio University and Wester Michigan University Sunday, Oct. 14, the MAC has decided to decide seeding based on average points per game. This procedure is designed to erase a potential unfair advantage the Bobcats and Broncos could potentially have if the original tie-breaking procedure were followed where the team with the better winning percentage received the higher seed.

Eastern Michigan is fourth in the MAC and second in the West Division with a points-per-game average of 1.88 (15 points in eight games).

THREE TO PLAY: After taking on Buffalo and Akron this weekend, the Eagles will have just one regular-season tilt remaining– a Thursday, Oct. 25, home match against Western Michigan University at 3 p.m. Neither of the three teams remaining on EMU's schedule are above .500 and carry a combined record of 4-15-4 headed into the final full weekend of the season.

OUTSIDE CHANCE: The Eagles still have a shot at capturing their first West Division title since a two-division format was implemented in 2011. Central Michigan currently has a six-point lead over EMU in the division, but EMU would need only to tie the Chippewas in the standings to claim the division title thanks to the team's 2-0 shutout over its in-state rival, Sept. 30, at Scicluna Field.

QUICK STAT: With 79 points scored on the season (24 goals, 31 assists), the Eagles are third in the MAC in that category. EMU trails only Miami (131 points) and Kent State (91). Despite its record, Akron is fourth in the MAC with 58 points.

EAGLES THRASH BOBCATS: EMU snapped a mini two-game losing skid with a 2-1 victory over Ohio University Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, at Scicluna Field. Sophomore Bianca Rossi scored her sixth of the season including the game-winning goal and junior Cara Cutaia netted her fifth of the year.

The Eagles moved to 3-0 in conference home matches while maintaining their second-place position in the MAC West Division.

Cutaia gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute and Rossi made it a two-goal affair in the 36th minute. Rossi also assisted on Cutaia's goal to earn her a three-point afternoon. Sophomore Angela Vultaggio notched assist on Rossi's game-winner.

FLASHES SPOIL THE PARTY: On Sunday, Oct. 14, a three-goal outburst in a span of seven minutes for Kent State University spoiled Senior Day for the Eagles. EMU dropped its third match in four chances, while the Golden Flashes won their fourth straight.

The complexion of the game quickly changed after that as Kent State opened the scoring with two goals 28 seconds apart. KSU added the game's final tally in the 34th minute to send the Eagles to a three-goal setback, good for the squad's largest margin of defeat this season.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jenna O'Dell was forced to leave the game after being run into by a KSU attacker in the first half. Freshman Megan McCabe played the final 56 minutes in goal, stopping a pair of shots in her first-career appearance.
