COLUMBIA, Mo. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team stands in 11th place after the first day of competition at the Sixth Annual Johnie Imes Invitational Monday, Oct. 1, here at The Club at Old Hawthorne. The Eagles posted team rounds of 301 and 309 for a total of 610 for the first two rounds.
Junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) led the way for the Green and White, firing rounds of 73 and 74 to finish with a 147 and put herself in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings. She is currently 10 strokes behind leader Whitney Pyle of Kansas State, who opened with a seven-under par 137 (68-69).
Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) shot a 153 (74-795) and teammate Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) shot a 153 (74-79) for 34th place. Senior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) managed a 159 (81-79) and junior Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) completed the Eagles' lineup with a 164 (79-85) in a tie for 77th.
No. 38 SMU leads the team race with a score of 581 (297-2841). Kansas State sits six strokes back in second place and host Missouri is 13 strokes back in third place.
Play will conclude with the final 18 holes Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the par 72, 6,234 yard Club at Old Hawthorne course.
