Gymnastics comes up short against Golden Flashes, 194.150-191.050

KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team dropped its season opener Friday, Jan. 20, at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio, as the Eagles came up short against the Golden Flashes of Kent State University, 194.150, 191.050.
Freshman Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.-North Harford) and junior Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) tied for fourth on the vault posting a 9.750, while sophomore Miranda Jarvis (Westminster, Md.-Westminster) followed with a career high 9.700.
Junior Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community) and Willette recorded a 9.675 on the uneven bars earning them a fifth place finish with Kent State's Whitnee Johnson. Sophomores Taylor Patterson (Xenia, Ohio-Xenia) and Ashley Quinton (Calgary, AB Canada-Bishop Menally) had strong showings on the bars earning a 9.650 and 9.625, respectfully.
Sophomore Shawna Ciaramella (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary CSS) finished first on the beam scoring a career high 9.775. Freshman Paulina Miller (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada-Citadel High School) followed closely finishing tied for second, posting a 9.750. Senior Tracie Tamashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii-Kalani) helped the Eagles by recording a 9.575 on the balance beam.
Senior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) led the Green and White on the floor finishing in third tallying a 9.775. Ciaramella tied for fourth posting a 9.725. Jarvis and senior Amanda Fuller (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary's) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles recording a 9.675 and 9.650, respectfully.
Kent State's Whitnee Johnson took first in the all around compition tallying a 38.800.
The Eagles open their home schedule Jan. 27, hosting Central Michigan and Texas Woman's University. Competition will take place at Bowen Field House and is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
