The Eastern Michigan University soccer team begins the second half of its six-game road trip with the back leg of a two-game stint in Indianapolis, Ind., when they take on Butler University Friday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m. The Eagles (0-2-1) will battle the Bulldogs (2-2-0) in an effort to break into the win column for the first time.

Eastern Michigan then heads back to the Great Lakes State for a 7 p.m. matchup with Oakland University (0-3-0) Sunday, Sept. 4, in Rochester, Mich.

WHAT TO EXPECT–BUTLER:
EMU and Butler are two squads which are not afraid to shoot the ball. The Eagles will enter Friday's contest averaging 17.3 shots-per-game (52 total), while the Bulldogs are shooting at a 15 shots-per-game clip.

The Green and White's offensive attack will once again be led by senior Chelsea Detrick and sophomore Stephanie Clarke, who combined for seven shots on goal last Sunday at IUPUI despite being held off the scoresheet. Freshman Angela Vultaggio, who registered her second goal of the year Sunday, should also prove to be a continued threat up front.

Butler will counter with a pair of offensive-minded attackers in juniors Rachel Melendez and Katie Griswold, who have each scored a pair of goals through four games.

Eastern Michigan should be able to take advantage of a young Butler defense which has already surrendered as many as six goals in a game this season.

WHAT TO EXPECT–OAKLAND:
Like the Eagles, OU enters Sunday's contest looking for its first win of the season. The Grizzlies have netted just two goals in their first three games, but have faced stiff competition in the University of Kentucky, the University of Michigan and Indiana University. Oakland must also play Michigan State University, Sept. 1, before facing the Eagles.

Oakland presents a versatile offense with a number of scoring threats returning from a 2010 campaign in which they finished first (8-0-1) in the Summit League. Junior forward Nicole DeLuca posted nine goals and four assists for 22 points last season, while senior midfielder Sarah Lynch took seven goals and four assists for 18 points. Junior Kara Weber proved to be a potent two-way defender last season with four goals and four assists for 12 points.

The Eagles' defense will undoubtedly be key in securing a victory against Oakland. Freshman Emily Dzik, sophomore Emily Kowalzyk and junior Jessica Thomas, all of whom played the entire 105 minutes in the absence of senior defensive captain Julie Kaim at IUPUI, will be looked upon to keep the OU offense at bay.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Eagles and Bulldogs share an all-time record of 0-0-1, with the previous meeting ending in a 1-1 tie Sept. 2, 2000. EMU takes on the Grizzlies for the 10th time, with OU holding an 8-1-0 series advantage. The squads last met Aug. 28, 2005, when the Grizzlies defeated the Eagles, 3-0.

MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH: Despite outplaying its opponent for most of the game, EMU walked away with a disappointing 2-1 overtime loss Sunday afternoon, Aug. 28, at IUPUI. The Eagles outshot the Jaguars, 25-15, and Angela Vultaggio netted her second goal in three games.

Eastern Michigan held IUPUI without a scoring attempt for a 48-minute stretch until the 102-minute mark, when the Jaguars started an offensive rush resulting in the sudden-death game-winner off a corner kick.

The Eagles' defense, which was without Julie Kaim for a second-straight game, kept IUPUI attackers at bay in the first half, allowing just a pair of shots on goal and blocking several more Jaguar attempts.

SHOOTING GALLERY: The Green and White launched a 25-shot attack with 12 on goal Sunday at IUPUI. These totals were the most for EMU since Sept. 7, 2010, when they fired 20 shots—10 on goal—against the University of Detroit.

“VULT”ING AHEAD: Angela Vultaggio has already become a valuable fixture for the EMU offense. After just three games of collegiate experience, the freshman has already found the back of the net twice to lead the team in goals scored. She also leads the Eagles in points with four.

START 'EM YOUNG: One thing you might notice looking down Butler's roster is the lack of seniors. Goalkeeper Natalie Galovska is the only player in her final season on a team with five juniors, 10 sophomores and seven freshmen.

The Eagles carry four soon-to-be graduates on their roster: Chelsea Detrick, Julie Kaim, and Amanda and Katie Marsh.

OUTSIDE THE FAMILY: Including the first three games of 2011, the Eagles carry a 19-21-11 record against non-conference foes since the 2005 season. EMU's best mark was 5-2-2 in 2008, when the team finished 13-5-5 overall.

ON THE RECORD:
Chelsea Detrick currently sits eighth all-time on the EMU scoring list with 45 points, four shy of tying former Eagle stars Brany Jones (1997-2001) and Courtney Sindelar (1999-2002). Jessica Hupe (2000-04) is the all-time leading point-getter with 117.

The native of Grosse Pointe, Mich. is also just a pair of goals away from tying Ashley Rodrigues (21) for fourth all-time in goals with 19. Hupe tallied 49 goals to top the career goals list as well.
