MAC MADNESS HEADS TO THE “Q”: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team continues its post-season run Wednesday evening, March 9, against Kent State University in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The contest is the finale of the four quarterfinal tilts and is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. from Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
The Eagles, seeded fifth in the tournament, downed the No. 4-seed Golden Flashes in their only previous meeting this season, 75-66, Feb. 2, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio. The winner advances to play either No. 1 Toledo or No. 8 Akron Friday, March 11, at 2:30 p.m.
Coming off an 82-74 victory over 12th seeded Miami, March 5, the Eagles enter the game with a mark of 20-11 (10-6 MAC) and will be playing its third game on a neutral court this season. Meanwhile, Kent State earned a bye to the quarterfinal round with a 56-53 come-from-behind victory at Akron, March 2, to up its record to 20-8 (11-5 MAC).

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The March 9 contest marks the 53rd meeting between the Golden Flashes and Eagles, who first met during the 1980-81 season. KSU leads the series, 34-18, including winning 24 of the last 32 meetings between the two schools. However, the Eagles posted a 75-66 victory in the lone meeting this season at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio, Feb. 2. EMU's win snapped KSU's 15-game home winning streak, which at the time was the 13th-longest in the country.
Senior Cassie Schrock had a stellar outing for the Eagles with a then-career high 30-point performance, connecting on 10-of-19 shots from the floor. Junior Tavelyn James added 16 for EMU with three steals, while Sydney Huntley had 11 points and a team-best eight boards.
Taisja Jones ledFIFTH 20-WIN SEASON: With its 82-74 victory over Miami, March 5, the Eagles picked up their fifth 20-win season in the past eight campaigns. Prior to the 2003-04 year, Eastern Michigan had never won more than 18 games in a single season.

Knapp, Ulker and VanMetre all played in 120 contests for then-Head Coach Suzy Merchant.
