BACK IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the court Saturday afternoon, March 12, to square off with the Falcons of the Bowling Green State University in the championship game of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Tournament at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena. The Eagles, seeded fifth in the tournament, sport a 22-11 mark, while the second-seeded Falcons boast a 27-4 record.
Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. WEMU (89.1 FM) will broadcast the game, while Comcast Television, digital cable channel 900 in the Ypsilanti area, will televise the title tilt. Mike Cairns will handle the play-by-play and Jacki Windon adds analysis for the women's championship.

MAC TOURNAMENT SEEDING FACTS: In the 30 years of the tournament, the top seed has won the title 20 times. With its 61-55 victory over Toledo, March 11, EMU becomes the first No. 5 seed to ever play in the championship game. Miami, a No. 4 seed in 1995, Western Michigan (No. 4 in 2003) and Bowling Green (No. 4 in 2004) were previously the highest seeds to ever advance to the title game. Western Michigan, a No. 4 seed in 2003, is the highest seed to ever win the title.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The March 12 contest marks the 59th meeting between the Bowling Green Falcons and Eastern Michigan Eagles, who first met during the 1976-1977 season. BGSU has dominated the all-time series, 44-14, including winning the last eight meetings between the two schools. Earlier this season, the Falcons captured a 60-55 victory at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Feb. 12, 2011.
Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert is still working for her first win over the Falcons, having dropped all four previous meetings to Curt Miller and company. BGSU is the only school in the league that EMU has not defeated in the past four seasons under Gilbert.

SEEKING TITLE NUMBER TWO: For the first time since the 2003-04 season and the second time overall, the Eagles have advanced to the championship game of the MAC Tournament. EMU is 1-0 all-time in the contest that decided the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Green and White defeated BGSU, 65-56, in the 2004 finale, March 13.
After Friday's 61-55 win over Toledo, EMU now has a record of 2-4 in semi-final round games in the league tourney over the years.

SCHROCK BECOMES EMU SINGLE-SEASON ASSISTS LEADER: With her three assists versus Toledo, March 11, Cassie Schrock became the EMU single-season assist leader with 189 dimes, surpassing Erika Ford's standard of 186 set in 2004-05.

HITTING FROM LONG RANGE: For the first time in 277 games, Eastern Michigan did not connect on a three-point field goal in its the semi-final victory over Toledo, March 11. The last time the Eagles did not make one was Jan. 26, 2002, in a 52-43 road victory over Central Michigan.

WOLVERINE STATE BACK IN THE FINALS: For the first time since EMU's appearance in 2004, a school from the state of Michigan has reached the finals of the MAC Tournament.

NOT OUR FIRST DANCE: Even though this is the women's basketball team's second finals appearance, the school has had plenty of experience in the deciding game. The men's squad has four tournament titles in 1988, 1991, 1996 and 1998.

EMU VERSUS BGSU IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: Bowling Greens holds a 4-2 mark against Eastern Michigan in the MAC Tournament. EMU is 1-0 against BG in first-round games, 0-2 in the quarterfinal round, 0-2 in the semifinals and 1-0 in the championship game.

ALL-TIME AGAINST TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT: The Eagles sport a 16-16 mark in 18 trips to the conference postseason and are making their fourth under Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert. The Eagles have faced Bowling Green (2-4) the most times of any squad in the tournament. Eastern is 2-2 versus Ohio, 3-1 against Toledo, 2-2 versus Miami and 1-3 versus Kent State. Eastern is 1-1 in postseason play versus Ball State and Northern Illinois. The Green and White are 2-0 against Buffalo and winless in only one attempt against Akron and Western Michigan. EMU was 2-0 versus Marshall in tournament play before the Thundering Herd departed for Conference USA.

THIRD-BEST RECORD IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: During the past eight Mid-American Conference Tournaments dating back to the 2004 championship, Eastern Michigan has posted an 11-6 mark, the third-best record over that span. EMU was 3-0 in 2004, 2-1 in 2005, 1-1 in 2006 and 2007, 0-1 on 2008 and 2009, and 1-1 in 2010. Bowling Green is 20-3 over that time while Toledo is 11-8, Ball State is 9-7 and Kent State is 6-8.

EMU AT THE 'Q': The Eagles are very familiar with the Quicken Loans Arena floor, as they have posted an 8-7 record, including capturing the 2004 championship, at the former Gund Arena.

SCHROCK SETS RECORD FOR GAMES PLAYED: Senior Cassie Schrock has played in 122 games during her four-year career, surpassing the trio of Nikki Knapp (2002-06), Melis Ulker (2002-06) and Sarah VanMetre (2003-07) for the all-time record for the most games played in an EMU uniform. Knapp, Ulker and VanMetre all played in 120 contests for then-Head Coach Suzy Merchant.

MAC TITANS AT IT AGAIN: When the Eagles and Falcons have tangled over the past eight seasons, it has almost been a guarantee that one of the teams (if not both) is on top of the MAC standings. Saturday's game extends a streak of 12 consecutive meetings featuring the league's divisional leader. The last time neither side was in first place was Jan. 27, 2004. Ironically, EMU and BGSU would next square off in the MAC Tournament title game, March 13, with the Eagles advancing to the NCAA Tournament with a 65-56 victory.
BGSU has been in first place in 11 of those games with EMU holding down the divisional lead in four contests. Additionally, both teams have been first in their respective divisions three times (2006, 2008 and 2010).

FIRST LEAD: For the first time in nearly three years, Eastern Michigan had a lead in a game versus the Falcons of Bowling Green. However, BGSU would rally in the second half to capture the 60-55 victory, Feb. 12, and down EMU for the eighth consecutive time. Prior to EMU's 4-3 advantage with 16:18 to play in the first half, the Eagles had not led for a second of game action against the Falcons since a Feb. 16, 2008, contest at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.

FIFTH 20-WIN SEASON: With its 82-74 victory over Miami, March 5, the Eagles picked up their fifth 20-win season in the past eight campaigns. Prior to the 2003-04 year, Eastern Michigan had never won more than 18 games in a single season.

THE LAST TIME WE TANGOED: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team battled all day with Mid-American Conference East Division leader Bowling Green, but in the end the visitors held on for a 60-55 victory Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, in the Convocation Center.
Eastern held a 31-24 halftime lead before Bowling Green rallied to tie the game late in the second half. With the lead bouncing back and forth, BGSU's Lauren Prochaska, the game's leader scorer with 37 points, hit a huge three with 3:20 left in the game.
The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way and the Falcons would hold on for the five point win.
The Eagles had three players in double figures, with Sydney Huntley scored 20, Tavelyn James 15 and Paige Redditt 11.
Bowling Green was led by Prochaska's 37 points and 12 rebounds.

THE LAST POST-SEASON MEETING WITH BGSU: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team gave a valiant effort, but it was not enough as the Eagles bowed out of the 2007 Kraft Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 71-57 setback to No. 18/20 Bowling Green State University in the semifinal round here at Quicken Loans Arena.
Senior Sarah VanMetre closed out an exceptional career with her 10th double-double of the season, grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds and pouring in 14 points Freshman of the Year Alyssa Pittman stroked 12 points while junior Patrice McKinney added nine points. The game also marked the close of an era, as John C. Fountain signed off the air for the final time after 44 years as the play-by-play voice of EMU radio.
Four BGSU players reached double-figures include Carin Horne with 18 points and seven boards. Ali Mann turned in 13 points while Kate Achter and Lindsay Goldsberry added 12 and 11, respectively.
