— This Friday, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State University. The Eagles are fresh off of back-to-back wins over Xavier and Miami and will look to keep the streak alive against the Buckeyes at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on OSU's campus. The meet is slated for a 5 p.m start.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Eagles will face Ohio State University for just the fourth time in program history, with OSU leading the series, 3-0. The last time the two teams faced off dates back to Feb. 5, 2010, where the Buckeyes edged the Eagles by a score of 177-112. EMU won five events that afternoon, with first place finishes from Jacob Hanson (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) in the 100 backstroke, Keith Coghlan (Largo, Fla.-Largo) in the 500 freestyle, Justin Griggs (Cheltenham, Australia-Australian Catholic University) in the100 butterfly, and Carlos Nunez (Beaverton, Ore.-Westview Portland) in the 200 IM. The Eagles secured their final first-place finish in the 400 free relay in 3:09.25.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES: Ohio State University men's swimming and diving team holds a 9-1 record heading into this Saturday, with their latest win over Big Ten opponent, Michigan State, when they outscored the Spartans 165-123 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Jan. 22. Three Buckeyes have been named Big Ten Conference Swimmer of the Week a total of four times this season. Zach Holmes and Tim Phillips each earned the award once, while Justin Farra was honored twice this season.

A WINNING WEEKEND: Last weekend, the men's team captured two wins to boost their overall record to 4-3. The Eagles picked up their first win on Jan. 28 against the visiting Musketeers of Xavier University by a score of 129-108. EMU captured six first place finishes in 13 events, taking victories in the 1,000 freestyle, 50 freestyle, one and three meter dives, 100 butterfly, and the 100 backstroke. On the 29th, EMU topped Mid-American Conference rival, Miami University, 180-116 to record their 59th consecutive conference dual-meet victory. The Eagles took 14 of 16 events, with Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) taking three first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (57.14), 500 freestyle (4:38.53), and the 200 IM (1:55.16). Jacob Hanson, Justin Griggs, and Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich. -Walled Lake Northern) each took two events for the Eagles, while Owen Grey (Allen, Texas-Allen), Ricky Linder (Cypress, Texas-Cy-Woods), Jeffrey Craig (Kent, Ohio-Field), and Michael Swain (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Huron) also claimed wins.

PULLING RANK:
There are 18 members from the men's squad who have posted top-five marks in the Mid-American Conference this season, with ten performances representing the best in the MAC. Leading the way is Jacob Hanson, who currently holds the top time in four events: the 100 and 200 backstroke events (49.14 and 1:46.34) and the 200 and 400 Individual Medleys (1:51.87 and 3:57.24). Justin Griggs is the current holder of the best 100 free time (45.29), while Troy Esentan has recored two top times in both the 100 breaststroke (57.14) and 200 breaststroke (2:00.45). Matt Zavislak 's 46.99 time in the 100 butterly is not only a conference best, but a NCAA conideration mark as well. In the 200 fly, Owen Grey sits in front of the pack with his time of 1:51.30 in the event.

ZAVISLAK EARNS FIRST MAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
: For the first time in his career, junior Matt Zavislak was named MAC Swimmer of the Week on Feb. 2 by the MAC office. He took first place in five different events over the weekend to help the Eagles capture wins against both Xavier University and Miami University. Against Xavier, the junior was the first to finish the 50 free in 21.24, the eighth best time in the Mid-American Conference. He also anchored the winning 200 Medley Relay that finished in 1:32.53. Against Miami, he took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. He completed the 100 in 46.32, while his 200 time of 1:42.06 is fifth best in the conference. Zavislak again helped the 200 Medley Relay to a 1:32.20, first place finish to represent the third best time in the MAC.
