EMU SQUARES OFF WITH SECOND BIG TEN OPPONENT:  The 2011-12 Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will meet its second Big Ten Conference opponent of the 2011-12 season when the Eagles square off against the Purdue University Boilermakers, Saturday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Eagles are 4-5, coming off a 66-53 setback at Drake University Thursday, Dec. 8. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are 8-2 on the year after posting a 65-60 win over a visiting Western Carolina team Wednesday, Dec. 7.
The Eagles and Boilermakers have met twice with Purdue winning both contests. Eastern traveled to West Lafayette Dec. 4, 1971, and were edged, 94-84. The Eagles traveled back to Purdue Nov. 17, 2008, and lost an 87-58 decision in a NIT Season Tip-Off game. Eastern then met Georgia the next night, Nov. 18, as part of that NIT Tip-Off and fell to the Bulldogs in a 61-60 heartbreaker.

BTN HAS THE CALL:  The EMU-Purdue game, Dec. 10, will be televised live on the Big Ten Network with Tom Hart on play-by-play duties and Bob Ford as the game analyst. Official tip time is 4:06 p.m. from Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

EMU AND PURDUE: EMU and Purdue will be meeting for the third time in history with Purdue having won both previous contests in West Lafayette.  The first game was played, Dec. 4, 1971, with Purdue recording a 94-84 win. George Gervin and Earl Dixon led the then-Hurons with 35 and 25 points respectively while Purdue was paced by William Franklin with 25. Bob Ford, one of the television announcers for this Saturday's game, had 12 for the Boilermakers. Purdue also captured the most recent outing, 87-58, Nov. 17, 2008, as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Justin Dobbins led the Eagles with 16 while Brandon Bowdry added 15. Purdue was paced by Robbie Hummel with 18 while E'Twaun Moore added 17.

LAMPLEY HITS FOR 37:  When senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) scored 37 points at Colgate, Dec. 1, 2011, it was the first 30-point effort for an Eagle since Brandon Bowdry scored 32 at Michigan State last season, Nov. 12, 2010. That 37 was the best since EMU's Carlos Medley tallied 42, March 11, 2010, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio, versus Akron.

STRICKLAND BREAKS OUT:  Anthony Strickland (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Dearborn Heights Robichaud-Adrian College) turned in the best performance of his short EMU career with 11 points and eight rebounds in a 74-70 loss at Colgate, Dec. 1. The 6-foot-5 Strickland, who sat out last year as a transfer from Adrian College, has played in all eight games this season, but save his best for the Colgate outing. He made 3-of-6 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws in that 11-point effort against Colgate.

FAST START FOR MURPHY:  The Rob Murphy Era of Eastern Michigan University men's basketball opened successfully as the Eagles downed the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames, 68-57, Friday, Nov. 11, in the Convocation Center. The Eagles rallied from six-points down in the second half to record the win. The Eagles are currently 4-5 under Murphy's leadership.

LAMPLEY NAMED MAC WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  EMU senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland C.C.) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for Nov. 21, 2011.  Lampley led the Eagles in scoring in three games last week, including a career-best 21 in a 62-51 win over Arkansas-Little Rock, Nov. 18.  He had 16 in a 66-64 win at IUPUI, Nov. 20, and 15 in a 66-49 loss at Texas Southern. Lampley averaged 33.7 minutes a game in those three outings.

FOR THE 115th TIME:  The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team kicked off its 115th season of competition Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, when the Eagles posted a 68-57 win over the Flames of the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in a 7 p.m. game in the Convocation Center. Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory.  The Eagles are are 67-48 in season openers.

38th MAC SEASON:  The 2011-12 season will also be the 38th for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for EMU was  1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overall and 4-9 in league play.
EMU has won three Mid-American Conference titles: 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

LOOKING AHEAD:  The Eagles started a nine-game road swing with a tilt at Syracuse, Nov. 29, followed by a contest at Colgate, Dec. 1. The Green and White had another two-game trip, at Drake, Dec. 8 and at Purdue, Dec. 10. After returning home following the Purdue tilt Saturday, Dec. 10, the Eagles once again stay on the road for two straight games in Virginia, facing Radford, Dec. 20, and Virginia Tech, Dec. 22. After that the Eagles have a five-day Holiday break before traveling to California to play in the Cable Car Classic, Dec. 29-30, in Santa Clara. EMU opens the classic against host Santa Clara, Dec. 29, at 8:15 p.m.
