Eagles will welcome Oakland at Jones Natatorium

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming and diving programs will welcome the Oakland University Grizzlies this Saturday, Nov. 12 at Jones Natatorium. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
ALL-TIME SERIES: This weekend's dual-meet matchup will represent the 29th meeting between the Eastern Michigan University and Oakland University men's swimming and diving programs and will be the 24th meeting between the women's squads.
On the men's side, the Eagles hold a convincing 22-6 advantage over the Grizzlies with their last meeting dating back to Jan. 8, 2011, where the Grizzlies topped EMU 184-116 on the road.
The women's swimming and diving program first faced the Grizzlies in the 1977-78 campaign where the Green and White came out on top, 89-42. Since their innagural meeting, the Eagles own a 15-13 overall record against OU and last faced the Grizzlies Jan. 8, 2011. The Eagles dropped a 151-149 decision to OU after the Grizzlies went 1-2 in the final event of the day to steal the victory.
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES: The Oakland University men's swimming and diving squad currently sits at 3-4 on the season with victories over Cleveland State, Wayne State and Wright State.
The women's team is 4-4 on the year with wins against Cleveland State, John Carroll, Wayne State and Wright State.
LAST TIME OUT: The EMU men's squad is returning to action after a 165-130 loss to Northwestern on Oct. 21.
The Eagles won five of the meet's 16 events with both Jeffrey Craig and Jacob Hanson both taking home multiple victories.
Craig was the top performer in the one and three-meter dives. He tallied 357.61 points on the one-meter boards and posted 361.73 points in the three-meter event to top all competitors this afternoon.
Hanson's victories came in the 200 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. The Normal, Ill. native was the first to touch the wall in the 200 Back at 1:51.60, and his 1:53.56 time in the 200 IM was good enough for his second first place performance of the day.
The quartet of Matt Zavislak, Dexter Foos, Gus Everson, and Brian Moore represented the Eagles' final first place finish of the afternoon, as the 400 Freestyle Relay team put together a 3:11.97 effort.
On the women's side, the Green and White improved to 1-1 on the year and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference after topping Bowling Green State University, 171-123.
EMU won 10 of 16 events on the afternoon, with Briana Emig, Amanda Kiefer, Danielle Hulvey and Jacquelyn Swartz each notching multiple wins for the Eagles.
Emig paced the Green and White with three first-place finishes on the day. She posted the fastest times in the 1,000, 500 and 200 Freestyle events, with teammate Wesley Blassneck providing support with third place finishes in the 1,000 and 500 distances.
Kiefer was first to touch the wall in the 100 Backstroke at 58.79 and also led the Eagles' 1-3 finish in the 200 Back. On the boards, Hulvey posted first place scores in both the one and three meter dives. She posted 269.13 points on the three meter boards to lead all competitors and earned a first place, 266.40 mark on the one meter.
Multiple wins by Swartz came in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley this afternoon. She and Sara Ghaffari went 1-2 in the 100 Fly after completing the distance in 57.96 and 57.99, respectively. Swartz would later earn a first place, 2:10.24 finish in the 200 IM, while teammate Godlewski finished in second 2:11.51.
IN THE RANKS: Several members of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have already posted top times in the Mid-American Conference this season.
On the men's side, Franco Petrone holds the fastest mark in the 500 Freestyle with his 4:42.42 performance against Northwestern on Oct. 21 in addition to the top 1,000 Freestyle time of 9:47.02 acheived in that same meet.
Troy Esentan is the current leader for the 200 Breaststroke, as his 2:07.20 time is best in the MAC, while teammate Jacob Hanson's 1:53.56 time in the 200 Individual Medley leads the conference.
