EAGLES AND HUSKIES SET TO OPEN THE MAC SLATE: With a grueling non-conference slate behind them, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team opens the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Northern Illinois University. Game time is set for 7 p.m CST. at the Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill..
Eastern Michigan enters the game with a mark of 9-5 after cruising to an 89-34 victory over Niagara University at the Convocation Center, Dec. 28. The Huskies are 6-7 on the season following a 73-51 home setback to Illinois State University, Jan. 3.

EMU IN MAC OPENERS: Eastern Michigan opens its 30th Mid-American Conference slate Wednesday night, Jan. 5, versus the Huskies of Northern Illinois University. The game marks just the fifth time that the two program's have squared off in a conference lid-lifter and the first since the 2007-08 campaign. The previous four league openers have all occurred in Ypsilanti with the Green and White posting victories in each.
The Green and White are 13-16 all-time in league openers dating back to 1981-82. EMU has won seven of the last eight MAC-opening tilts going back to the 2002-03 season, including a 73-55 win over Central Michigan University last year in Ypsilanti, Jan. 6, 2010.

A BULLSEYE ON NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Wednesday's contest versus Northern Illinois University marks the 34th meeting between the Huskies and Eagles, who first played during the 1981-82 season. Eastern leads the overall series, 24-9, and has won 19 of the last 22 games over the Cardinal and Black. Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert has tallied a 5-1 mark against NIU since taking over the program in 2007-08.

STARTING TO COME TOGETHER: Over the past four contests the Eagles have started to gel, winning the last four games by an average of 30.0 points per game (EMU 76.0, OPP 46.0). Eastern's field goal percentage has also started to climb, to 39.7 percent while going to the charity stripe 137 times. The Green and White have also forced the opposition to turn the ball over an average of 27.3 times per game, while grabbing 17.8 steals per contest.

RECORDS A PLENTY VERSUS NIAGARA: EMU capped off the 2010 calendar year with a fourth consecutive victory, 89-34, over Niagara University Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Convocation Center. The 55-point spread marked the fourth-largest margin of victory in Convocation Center history, and the Purple Eagles' 34 total points were the lowest game total for an NCAA Division I team in Convocation Center history.
The Eagles outscored the Purple Eagles 39-13 in the second half, marking the fifth-fewest points allowed by an EMU team since the Convocation Center's inception in the 1998-99 season. EMU allowed only three made field goals by the visitors in the final three minutes, and held Niagara without a make from beyond the arc (0-of-6 for the game).

IT'S RAINING THREES!: After struggling from beyond 19 feet-9 inches, EMU found its three-point stroke at home versus Niagara, Dec. 28, to close out the 2010 calendar year. The Eagles were a season-best 10-for-21 from long range, after going 15-of-74 in the five games prior to unleashing the three-point barrage.
Additionally, EMU's 10 triples broke a streak of 19 games since the Eagles last reached double-digits in three-point field goals made. The last time EMU notched more than 10 treys was in a double-overtime thriller at Central Michigan, Feb. 20, 2010, when the squad equalled a school-record with 16.

THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Jan. 5 will mark the 10th time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 1-8 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2008 when the Green and White were downed at the University of Utah, 70-56, in Salt Lake City.

ON THE HORIZON: EMU return home to Ypsilanti Saturday, Jan. 8, to host West Division rival Ball State University at 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. Saturday's contest marks the 61st meeting between the Cardinals and Eagles, who first played during the 1979-80 season. Eastern Michigan leads the series, 33-27, including sweeping the 2009-10 season series.

SCHROCK SOLID: Senior Cassie Schrock had a pair of exceptional nights versus Temple, Dec. 21, and Illinois-Chicago, Dec. 23, averaging 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. The Wadsworth, Ohio native was a solid 21-for-28 from the free throw line, including a personal-best 14-for-18 from the charity stripe against the Flames. The 14 free throws made equal the school-record set by Colleen Russell versus the University of Akron, Feb. 12, 2008.

JOINING SOME RARE COMPANY: With a steal in the opening moments versus UIC, Cassie Schrock became the third player in EMU women's basketball history with 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 175 steals in their career. The Wadsworth, Ohio native currently has 1,131 points, 608 rebounds, 393 assists and 182 steals in her career.
