ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Riding a three-game winning streak, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hits the road Saturday, Jan. 29, for a Mid-American Conference cross divisional showdown at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Millett Hall. The contest is part of a doubleheader with the Miami men's basketball team and will also be broadcast throughout the state of Ohio on the Ohio News Network (ONN).
Eastern Michigan enters the game with a 14-7 (5-2 MAC) record, after cruising to an 85-40 victory over Ohio University, Jan. 26, in Ypsilanti. The RedHawks are 10-10 (2-5 MAC) and have lost their last three contests, including a 71-64 setback at Northern Illinois University, Jan. 23, and a 66-49 loss at Ball State University, Jan. 26.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Jan. 29 contest marks the 49th meeting between the Miami RedHawks and Eastern Michigan Eagles, who first met during the 1979-80 season. Miami has dominated the all-time series, 36-12, including posting a 79-63 victory in the lone meeting last season at the Convocation Center, Feb. 10, 2010.
Miami scored the first six points of the game and built its lead to as many as 16, as they cruised to the 16-point win last year. Tavelyn James led the Eagles in scoring with 21 while Cassie Schrock scored 12 as the only two Eagles in double figures. Rachael Hencke led the RedHawks with 20 points while Maggie Boyer scored 15 and Kirsten Olowinski added 13.

FINDING THE GAME ON YOUR RADIO DIAL: With the EMU men's basketball team on the road for a game at Bowling Green State University Saturday afternoon, the women's contest will only be broadcast on Eagle All-Access rather than WEMU (89.1 FM). Ryan Wooley will have the call beginning at 1:50 p.m. from Oxford, Ohio. As always, on demand replays of most EMU basketball games are available to subscribers at EMUEagles.com/showcase.

MILLETT NOT KIND TO EMU: Miami University's Millett Hall has been a building that has caused EMU coaches to have nightmares. The Green and White have posted an all-time record of 6-15 in the venerable building. However, things of late have started to change as the Eagles have posted 74-56 (Feb. 7, 2007) and 56-45 (Feb. 14, 2009) victories in their last two trips to Oxford, Ohio. The only other time Eastern has won back-to-back games in Millett Hall was between 1986 and 1987 when Head Coach Kathy Hart guided the then-Hurons to consecutive victories.

STREAK SNAPPED: Senior Cassie Schrock did not attempt a free-throw versus Ohio, Jan. 26, snapping a streak of 21 consecutive contests with at least one attempt. EMU's career leader in both free throws made and attempted, Schrock has just eight games in her career without a trip to the charity stripe.

EN FUEGO: The Eagles shot white-hot 62.3 percent (38-of-61) from the floor in the 85-40 victory over the Ohio Bobcats, Jan. 26, in Ypsilanti. EMU's field goal percentage was the best in Convocation Center history, bettering a 57.6 (34-of-59) clip set by the Green and White versus Akron, Feb. 16, 1999. Meanwhile, the defense stepped up, holding Ohio to just 24.0 percent (12-of-50) from the field for the fifth worst field goal ratio in the building's 13-year history. Additionally, the 45-point margin of victory was the largest differential in conference play this season.

ON THE HORIZON: The Feb. 2 contest marks the 52nd meeting between the Golden Flashes and Eagles, who first met during the 1980-81 season. KSU leads the series, 34-17, including winning 24 of the last 31 meetings between the two schools. EMU took last year's lone regular-season meeting, Feb. 6, 2010, 78-72, at the Convocation Center.

NCAA RANKINGS: The latest NCAA Statistical Rankings came out on Jan. 23 and the Eagles are 11th in the nation (out of 333 eligible teams) in steals per game at 13.1. They are 24th in turnover margin at +5.0 and 61st in three-point field goal defense made per game at 28.6 percent. Individually, Sydney Huntley is 41st in the nation with an average of 2.8 steals rebounds per game. Tavelyn James is 43rd in the nation in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game, and Cassie Schrock is 41st in the nation in assists with an average of 5.5 per game.

SURVIVAL IN AKRON: Six consecutive free throws by junior Tavelyn James over the final 40 seconds sealed EMU's 56-51 victory over Akron, Jan. 22, at James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio. The Eagles, who held the lead for most of the ballgame, placed three players in double figures but had to survive a late Zips rally to escape with the Mid-American Conference cross-divisional win.
In the victory, the Eagles set or equalled season-bests in three-pointers attempted (25), offensive rebounds (28), total rebounds (54) and field goals attempted (70). However, all was not rosy, as the Eagles managed a season-low 22.9 percent (16-of-70) field goal clip. The total is the lowest for an EMU squad since the 1999-2000 campaign when the statistical category began to be tracked in the EMU record book.

JAMES BECOMES THE EMU CAREER LEADER FOR THREE-POINTERS ATTEMPTED: With seven three-pointers attempted at Akron, Jan. 22, junior Tavelyn James became the EMU career leader in three-point field goals attempted. James has tossed up 585 three-pointers, making 179 of those shots. Kristy Maska (1997-01) made 215 of her 578 career three-pointers for the previous EMU long range shot record. Given James' current pace, she will shatter the Mid-American Conference standard for three-pointers attempted, bypassing Toledo's Mimi Olson (1992-96), who rose up for 711.
