Soccer Team to Host Detroit in Home Opener Tuesday at 4 p.m.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - After four straight road matches to open the season, the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team will finally return to Ypsilanti for its long awaited home opener at Scicluna Field Tuesday, Sept. 7, against Detroit at 4 p.m. Coming off a disappointing 4-0 defeat to in-state rival Michigan State, the Eagles are axious to get back into the win column against another in-state foe, the Detroit Titans.

SCOUTING THE TITANS: The University of Detroit-Mercy is 2-2-1 this season and coming off a west coast trip to California Sept. 3-5, where they went 0-1-1. The Titans worked a draw with San Diego State, 1-1, before falling to Pepperdine, 4-0. UDM has outscored its opponents 11-8 this year with both wins coming by way of shutouts against Madonna (6-0) and IUPUI (3-0). Abby McCollum leads the team with seven points (2 G, 3A) while Alexandra Suschak and Nina Carter have scored three goals apiece. Nora Abolins has started all five games in goal for the Titans, recording a 1.60 GAA and a .781 save percentage.
LAST TIME OUT: It was a disappointing end to their four-game road trip as the Eagles fell to Michigan State, 4-0, at DeMartin Stadium. EMU went into East Lansing looking to knock off the Spartans for just the second time in its history, but had difficulty generating any offense. The Spartans tacked on a 29th minute goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime before adding three more second half goals to run away with the non-conference affair. Monique Budani made 17 saves amidst a 30-6 advantage for MSU in the shots department. The Eagles managed just three shots on goal as they were shutout for the first time this year and saw their unblemished record take a hit fo the first time this season.
COMMON OPPONENT: The Eagles and Titans have one common opponent heading into their matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The Michigan Wolverines welcomed in both squads with Detroit getting the first crack at U-M inside its newly renovated soccer stadium. The Titans dropped their bout with the Wolverines, 3-1, on Friday, Aug. 20, before the Eagles invaded their new digs to force a 1-1 draw. When the season concludes, both squads will share three common opponents with the addition of Central Michigan and Valparaiso.
TRENDING TIES: The Eagles and Titans have met in each of the past two seasons prior to Tuesday's matchup. In each of those instances the end result has been a 0-0 tie. Last year, the Eagles were scheduled to host UDM at Scicluna Field, but persistent rain made the field impossible to play on, forcing a change of site to Titan Field for the second year in a row.
ROAD WRAP-UP: The Green and White wrapped up its season opening road trip with a meeting against Michigan State in East Lansing, Fri. Sept. 3. The Eagles went 2-1-1 after falling to MSU, 4-0. EMU drew even with Michigan (1-1) before capturing victories over Illinois State (1-0) and Eastern Illinois (1-0). Their long-awaited home opener will be Tuesday, Sept. 7, versus Detroit at Scicluna Field at 4 p.m.
