Eagles post season-best score of 192.700 to top Sacramento State, but fall to host Cal Davis

DAVIS, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) –
Behind a season-high score of 192.700, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished second overall the University California Invitational Friday night, March 5, at the Pavilion in Davis, Calif. The Aggies from UC Davis won the overall team score with a 194.250, followed by EMU and Sacramento State University (192.300).

True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) had a career day at the competition, posting the top all-around score of the meet (38.975) to pace the Eagles. Millick carded career-high marks of 9.850 on the balance beam and 9.775 on the vault, while also recording scores of 9.700 on the uneven parallel bars and a 9.650 in the floor exercise. Millick topped UC Davis' Tanya Ho, who finished second all-around with a 38.850. Millick tied for first on both the beam and vault, while finishing tied for ninth in the floor exercise and on the bars. Her 9.850 on the beam was the highest score posted in any event in the competition.

Millick's freshman counterpart Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park) also had a career-day for EMU, as she posted career-high scores of 9.750 on the balance beam and 9.725 on the uneven parallel bars, while also tallying a 9.650 in the floor exercise.

Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) finished tied for first in the floor exercise, as her 9.750 was her top score of the competition and put her tied with Sacramento State's Bethany Barrick for the top spot. Grigg also carded scores of 9.725 on the vault and 9.400 on the uneven parallel bars.

Redshirt freshman Amanda Fuller (Hamilton, Ontario-St. Mary's) registered a career-best 9.700 on the vault, while senior Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) posted a 9.675 on the vault in her first competition of the season.

Junior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) continued to build on her already impressive third-year at EMU, as she carded a 9.725 on the balance beam to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. Viltz also recorded a 9.125 on the vault for the Eagles.

Sophomore beam specialist Tracie Tamashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii-Kalani) posted a 9.625 on the apparatus, good for 13th place.

The Eagles now make the trek back to Ypsilanti, as they host the Eagle Invitational, March 13, inside Bowen Field House. EMU will take on Western Michigan University, Northern Illinois University and Seattle Pacific University, beginning at 7 p.m.
