The EMU gymnastics team will be raising money for breast cancer research at the Eagle Invite on Saturday, March 13

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team's annual Eagle Invitational will “Go Pink” on Saturday, March 13, as the Eagles raise money for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All fans in attendance at the Eagle Invitational who donate towards the cause will receive a breast cancer pin, as the Eagles take on Northern Illinois University, Western Michigan University and Seattle Pacific University.

“We are proud to be partnering with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and I am glad our team will have the opportunity to contribute to the research of finding a cure,” said EMU Head Gymnastics Coach Steve Wilce. “We all know someone who has been impacted by cancer in some way, shape, or form, and I am extremely proud of the work our team has done for this event.”

EMU gymnastics has raised nearly $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the team will be accepting donations during the Eagle Invitational to reach its goal and help contribute to the research of finding a cure.

LAST TIME OUT: Behind a season-high score of 192.700, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished second overall the University California Invitational Friday night, March 5, at the Pavilion in Davis, Calif. The Aggies from UC Davis won the overall team score with a 194.250, followed by EMU and Sacramento State University (192.300).

LOOKING AHEAD: The Eagles wrap up the regular season next week when they head to Muncie, Ind. to square off against the Ball State University Cardinals. The competition is set for 2 p.m. inside Worthen Arena.

FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS: EMU true freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) had a career day at the UC Davis Invitational, March 5, posting the top all-around score of the meet (38.975) to pace the Eagles. Millick carded career-high marks of 9.850 on the balance beam and 9.775 on the vault, while also recording scores of 9.700 on the uneven parallel bars and a 9.650 in the floor exercise. Millick topped UC Davis' Tanya Ho, who finished second all-around with a 38.850. Millick tied for first on both the beam and vault, while finishing tied for ninth in the floor exercise and on the bars. Her 9.850 on the beam was the highest score posted in any event in the competition.

BACK IN THE LINEUP: Senior Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) posted a 9.675 on the vault in her first competition of the season last week at the UC Davis Invitational, March 5. Her score was tied for ninth place.

SO FAR, SO GOOD: In seven meets this season, the Eagles are averaging over 190 points per-competition. The Eagles' highest score came last week at the Cal Davis Invite, March 5, when they posted a 192.700 en route to a second place finish. EMU's 188.200 score in the victory against WMU, Feb. 13, marks the Eagles' lowest output of the season.

AWARD WINNING EAGLE: Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) was named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week after leading the Eagles to a home victory over Western Michigan University, Feb. 13. It marks Grigg's first MAC Gymnast of the Week award in her four-year career and her fourth overall league accolade (MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week twice and Academic All-MAC in 2009).

MAC CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO "THE HOUSE THAT ROARS": The 2010 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship will take place March 27 at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
