EMU Finishes Atop the Field at Eagle Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished in first Saturday night, March 13, at the Eagle Invitational and their final home meet of the 2010 season with a team score of 192.175.
Finishing second just below the Eagles were the Huskies from Northern Illinois University with a team score of 191.300, followed by the Broncos of Western Michigan University with a team score of 190.700 coming in third, and taking fourth, the Falcons from Seattle Pacific University tallying a team score of 187.250.
The Eagles represented a different color on Saturday, in an effort to “Go Pink”. The gymnastics team raised over $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help contribute to the research of finding a cure.
With the win, the Green and White move their record to 7-8 (2-3 MAC).
True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa- Trinity) had an outstanding night finishing in first all-around with a score of 38.800. She tied for second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.775, and finished third on the balance beam, vault and uneven parallel bars with scores of 9.675, 9.650 and 9.700, respectively.
Sophomore Amanda Fuller (Hamilton, Ont.- St.Mary's) finished just behind Millick on the vault taking fourth place with a score of 9.600, followed by senior Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn- Spring Lake Park) tying for seventh tallying a 9.550.
Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ont.- Widdifield), sophomore Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.- Brantford Collegiate Institute), and Millick tied with a score of 9.700, earning third place honors on the uneven parallel bars. Grigg and Wood again tied for eighth place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.675. Grigg finished out the meet strong tallying a 9.525 on the vault, while wood earned a 8.675 on the beam.
Junior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.- Carmel) had an excellent showing on the balance beam finishing second with a 9.700, just behind NIU's Jessie Watanabe. Sophomore Kristin Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) also finished second in the floor exercise tallying 9.775.
The Eagles are back in action Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to face the Cardinals of Ball State University for their final regular season meet.
