YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team wraps up its regular season Sunday, March 21, when the Eagles head to Muncie, Ind. for a Mid-American Conference West Division title versus the Ball State University Cardinals. The competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. inside Worthen Arena.
LOOKING BACK: The Eagles finished atop the field at the 2010 Eagle Invitational last week, March 13, finishing with a team score of 192.175 to finish ahead of Northern Illinois University (191.300), Western Michigan University (190.700) and Seattle Pacific University (187.250).
LOOKING AHEAD: Following Sunday's contest, EMU heads to Bowling Green, Ohio for the 2010 MAC Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 27, at Anderson Arena.
BACK-TO-BACK: True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) has won the all-around in back-to-back weeks, as she claimed the title at last week's Eagle Invitational with a score of 38.800. Millick also won the all-around at the Cal Davis Invitational, March 5, where she posted a score of 38.975. Already in her career, Millick ranks among the top 10 all-around performers in EMU history.
FOR A GOOD CAUSE: At its annual Eagle Invitational, March 13, the EMU gymnastics team raised over $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fund research to find a cure for cancer.
SENIOR CLASS: The 2010 MAC Championship marks the final go-around for seniors Sam Golden (Denville, N.J.-Morris Knolls), Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) and Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield).
BACK IN THE LINEUP: Senior Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) posted a 9.675 on the vault in her first competition at the UC Davis Invitational, March 5, to finish ninth. At the Eagle Invitational, March 13, Balow notched a 9.550 on the vault to finish tied for seventh.
SO FAR, SO GOOD: In eight meets this season, the Eagles are averaging over 190 points per-competition. The Eagles' highest score came last week at the Cal Davis Invite, March 5, when they posted a 192.700 en route to a second place finish. EMU's 188.200 score in the victory against WMU, Feb. 13, marks the Eagles' lowest output of the season. Last week at the Eagle Invitational, the Eagles posted a 192.175 to finish atop the field.
AWARD WINNING EAGLE: Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) was named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week after leading the Eagles to a home victory over Western, Feb. 13. It marks Grigg's first MAC Gymnast of the Week award in her four-year career and her fourth overall league accolade (MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week twice and Academic All-MAC in 2009). MAC CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO "THE HOUSE THAT ROARS": The 2010 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship will take place March 27 at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio. It will mark EMU's second trip to Anderson Arena this season, as the team dropped a Feb. 21 contest to the Falcons inside the House that Roars.
