Eagles Back Home to Host WMU

Eagles to host Broncos Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. for Senior Day

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Coming off its second consecutive third place finish in the State of Michigan Classic last weekend, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team jumps back into Mid-American Conference play this weekend, as the Eagles host Western Michigan University Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. in Warner Gymnasium.

 

LOOKING BACK: Last week in Kalamazoo at the Michigan Classic, the Eagles placed third overall with a team score of 191.250 to top Western Michigan (190.875), while finishing just behind Michigan State University (194.550) and Central Michigan University (194.975). It marks the second year in a row that EMU has finished third at the Michigan Classic.

 

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Saturday's dual meet against WMU, the Eagles head to Bowling Green, Ohio to square off against the Bowling Green State University Falcons Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m.

 

SENIOR DAY: Saturday's contest marks Senior Day, as the team will honor gymnasts Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield), Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) and Samantha Golden (Denville, N.J.-Morris Knolls).

 

FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS: True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) had a break out competition at the 18th Annual State of Michigan Classic, Feb. 7, as she posted a team-best all-around score of 38.750 (sixth overall) to lead the Eagles to a third place finish. Miilick carded scores of 9.675 (vault), 9.550 (bars), 9.775 (beam), and 9.750 (floor exercise) to pace the Eagles.

 

VAULTING TO THE TOP: Junior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) and senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) both registered impressive marks on the vault at the State of Michigan Classic, Feb. 7, as both gymnasts carded a 9.800 to finished tied for third place with Michigan State's Kelsey Morley.

 

HEADING WEST: The Eagles will make their annual spring break trip to the West Coast this season when they compete in the Stanford Invitational, Feb. 28, against the Stanford Cardinal, North Carolina Tarheels and California Bears. The team will remain in California for the California-Davis Invitational, March 5, when they take on UC-Davis and Sacramento. State. 

 

HOME SWEET HOME: The Eagles compete at home just one more time this season following Saturday's contest against the Broncos. The team will host the Eagle Invitational, March 13, when WMU, Northern Illinois and Seattle Pacific invade Bowen Field House.
