STANFORD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team had a good showing at the Stanford Invitational Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28, as the Eagles finished in third place with a team score of 190.125.

 

The Eagles move their record to 3-7 (1-3 MAC) after going 1-2 on the day.

 

The No. 6 Stanford University Cardinals finished at the top with a team score of 196.525, followed by the University of North Carolina Tar Heels taking second finishing with a team score of 192.975, EMU with 190.125 and the University of California finished in fourth tallying a team score of 188.825.

 

True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) continued to put up high marks, as her performance on the balance beam earned her a 9.650, and a tie for second place.  Millick also carded a 9.675 on the vault, 9.575 on the bars, and a 9.675 in the floor exercise.  Millick had the best all-around score for the Green and White, finishing fourth overall with a 38.575.

 

Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario- Widdifield) had an outstanding afternoon finishing eighth, with an all-around score of 37.525. Grigg also tied for second on the vault with North Carolina's Karli Jones carding a 9.750.

 

Sophomore Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ontario-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) carded solid marks in the competition, finishing ninth for her floor routine and 13th on the bars, with scores of 9.750 and 9.625 respectively.

 

Freshman Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park) and junior Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio- Bellbrook) both had great performances on the balance beam, as Cassar tied for fourth with a 9.675 and Crouch tying for 11th carding a 9.600.

 

The Eagles are back in action Friday, March 5, at the UC Davis Invitational in Davis, California.  The meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. (PST).
