EAGLES LOOK TO CLIP THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS SATURDAY: With final exams on the horizon,, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 11, for another non-conference doubleheader at the Convocation Center. The men's basketball team hosts the University of Detroit Mercy at 2 p.m. with the Eagles battling Canisius College 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
Canisius enters the game with a 2-5 record following a lopsided 74-41 defeat at at St. Bonaventure Tuesday, Dec. 7, while Eastern dropped to 5-5 overall following a heartbreaking 62-60 setback to Detroit Wednesday, Dec. 8.

AN EMPIRE STATE OF MIND: The Eagles' have been dominant versus schools from the State of New York, posting a 16-game winning streak against the Empire State dating back to the 2003-04 campaign. Eastern Michigan's last loss to a team that hailed from the state was a 71-65 setback to Buffalo, Jan. 15, 2003.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE GRIFFS: This is the seventh meeting between the Eagles and the Golden Griffins on the hardwood. The last time the programs played was during the 2005-06 campaign, with EMU capturing a 70-44 victory at the Convocation Center, Dec. 30. Canisius is 2-1 all-time within the confines of the Convo. The Griffins took part in the 2002 Eagle Classic, Nov. 22-23, 2002, dominating Stetson, 104-68, in the season-opener before outlasting EMU, 76-70, in the championship game.

EAGLE NATION SIX-PACK: Saturday's contest continues a historic homestand at the Convocation Center for the Eagles. Beginning Dec. 6, EMU remains in Ypsilanti for six games over the span of 23 days. The homestand is the second-longest in the program's 35-year history, only bettered by a seven-game streak during the 1979-80 campaign. The Green and White will take to the road Jan. 5 to open Mid-American Conference play before returning to the friendly confines of the Convo for three more contests against league competition.

SCHROCK AND GILBERT GO FOR 100: Saturday will mark the 100th career game of senior Cassie Schrock's career, as well as, the 100th EMU contest for Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert.

THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Dec. 11 will mark the 14th time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 7-6 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2004 when the Green and White downed Youngstown State University, 87-62, at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE METRO ATLANTIC ATHLETIC: Eastern is 9-4 all-time versus the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), having played Canisius College (4-2), Siena College (2-0), Marist College (1-0), Niagara University (2-0) and Saint Peter's College (0-2).
The Eagles' home contest against a team from the Edison, N.J. based conference was Dec. 30, 2005, when Eastern rolled past the Golden Griffins of Canisius, 70-44, at the Convocation Center. That night Ryan Coleman led three Eagles in double figures with 20 points, including connecting on 7-of-16 from the field. Nikki Knapp added 15 points with eight rebounds while Patrice McKinney turned in a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

STRUGGLING FROM DEEP: The Eagles have been struggling from three-point range this season, shooting just 26.4 percent from behind the arc, which ranks 10th in the Mid-American Conference. EMU is averaging 5.2 treys per game, which ranks eighth in the league.

CHECKING THE CAREER STATS: With her 13 free throws made versus Cal State Northridge, Nov. 21, senior Cassie Schrock became the EMU career leader in free throws made with 417. Nikki Knapp (2002-06) held the previous standard of 411 makes. The Wadsworth, Ohio native is still 45 attempts shy on Knapps' record of 626 free throws attempted.
Junior Tavelyn James moved into second place all-time with 515 three-pointers attempted, 63 shots short of Kristy Maska's (1997-01) record of 578 in a career. James has also made 156 triples, which passed Alyssa Pittman (2006-08) for the fourth-most three-pointers made in the program history.
