EASTERN LOOKS TO GET BACK ON TRACK VERSUS DETROIT: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hosts the University of Detroit Mercy Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Convocation Center. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.. The game is the first part of a doubleheader with the EMU men's basketball team, who tangle with Drake University 30 minutes following the conclusion of the EMU-UDM contest.
Eastern Michigan enters the game with a mark of 5-4 after falling to the nationally-ranked Phoenix of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 68-44, Dec. 6. The Titans are 3-4 on the young season, having lost four consecutive games, including a 63-55 decision Sunday, Dec. 3, at Tulane University in the finale of the Big Easy Classic.
ALL-TIME VERSUS THE TITANS: The Eagles and Titans face off for the 20th time in the program's history with Detroit holding an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series. Wednesday's meeting will be the fifth consecutive season the schools have squared off on the hardwood. UDM opened the series with nine consecutive victories before EMU rolled off five wins between 1989 and 1999.
Last season, Eastern Michigan upended Detroit, 72-55, Dec. 5, 2009, at venerable Calihan Hall in Detroit. The last time the squads squared off in Ypsilanti, Detroit knocked off EMU, 76-75, Dec. 20, 2008, in double-overtime at the Convocation Center.
EAGLE NATION SIX-PACK: Wednesday's contest continues a historic homestand at the Convocation Center for the Eagles. Beginning Dec. 6, EMU remains in Ypsilanti for six games over the span of 23 days. The homestand is the second-longest in the program's 35-year history, only bettered by a seven-game streak during the 1979-80 campaign. The Green and White will take to the road Jan. 5 to open Mid-American Conference play before returning to the friendly confines of the Convo for three more contests against league competition.
TIED TO THE TITANS: There will be plenty of memories shared Wednesday night, Dec. 8, from the Eastern Michigan bench when Detroit comes to town.
EMU associate head coach LaTonya Tate was a member of the Detroit Mercy women's basketball staff for two separate stints, from 2004-07 and from 1995-97. A native of Detroit, Tate graduated from Detroit Cass Technical High School in 1988 after earning All-State honors in basketball. She was an All-State Dream Team selection, an honorable mention All-American and the runner-up for Miss Basketball in the state of Michigan in 1987.
Assistant coach Yvette Harris graduated with a degree in business administration and finance in 1982 from the University of Detroit Mercy. Harris played three seasons of basketball for the Titans, after beginning her career at the University of Michigan.
EMU VERSUS THE HORIZON LEAGUE: Eastern is 46-32 all-time versus the Indianapolis, Ind. based conference, having played against all 10 member institutions. EMU has faced the University of Detroit Mercy more times than any other league member, with the Titans holding an 11-8 lead in the series.
THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Dec. 8 will mark the 11th time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 7-3 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2007 when the Green and White downed Florida International University, 77-58, at Pharmed Arena in Miami, Fla. Sophomore guard Alyssa Pittman led the Eagles with 19 points, with 12 coming in the second half to lead an EMU surge which would seal the game.
CHECKING THE CAREER STATS: With her 13 free throws made versus Cal State Northridge, Nov. 21, senior Cassie Schrock became the EMU career leader in free throws made with 417. Nikki Knapp (2002-06) held the previous standard of 411 makes. The Wadsworth, Ohio native is still 49 attempts shy on Knapps' record of 626 free throws attempted.
Junior Tavelyn James moved into second place all-time with 511 three-pointers attempted, 67 shots short of Kristy Maska's (1997-01) record of 578 in a career. James has also made 155 triples, which passed Alyssa Pittman (2006-08) for the fourth-most three-pointers made in the program history.
NOT THE ONLY ROBBER: Cassie Schrock, now with 170 steals in her distinguished career, is not the only Eagle with a tendency to make steals. In fact, there are three current EMU players with 100-plus career steals. Senior Sydney Huntley (123) and junior Tavelyn James (120) are also part of the century club in swipes.
CANISIUS ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 11, for another non-conference doubleheader at the Convocation Center. The men's basketball team hosts the University of Detroit Mercy at 2 p.m. with the Eagles battling Canisius College 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. Canisius enters the game with a 2-4 record with victories over Colgate and Towson.

ALLOWING 50 OR LESS: Eastern Michigan is 84-0 all time when allowing 50 points or less. Since 2003-04 the Green and White have accomplished the feat 39 times with 19 of those coming against Mid-American Conference foes.
