SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (EMUEagles.com)
— The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team dropped a 72-57 non-conference decision to Missouri State University Friday, Dec. 3, at JQH Arena.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 5-3, while the Lady Bears move to 6-2 on the year with the win.

The Eagles struggled offensively all game, hitting for just 26.2 percent (17-for-65) compared to 40 percent (22-55) for the Lady Bears. MSU also dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Eagles, 60-33. Leading the way for EMU was junior Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford), who picked up a season-high 29 points. Sydney Huntley (Cincinnati, Ohio-Purcell Marian) went for nine points to go along with five steals and four assists, while Paige Redditt (Kansas City, Mo.-Belton) chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and it was a Redditt free throw that finally put the Eagles on the board at 4-1. In the first 17 minutes of play, the Green and White put up just 15 points, but in the final three minutes the Eagles started to build momentum after forcing four MSU turnovers to help set up seven quick points. With just 36 seconds left, James recorded the steal and dished it to Huntley for the score at the other end, cutting the deficit to 19 points as they headed into the locker room.

The Eagles came out on all cylinders in the second half when senior Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) snagged the ball away and zipped it to James for the quick bucket. With 11:09 to go, EMU suffered a scare when James went down after being tripped up on her drive to the basket and had to come out of the game momentarily. De'Ja Wills (Anderson, Ind.Anderson) would sub in for James at the line, sinking both to set the score at 60-42. The Eagles would go on to outscore the Lady Bears in the second half, 35-31, but the deficit was too much to overcome as Missouri State pulled away with it, 72-57.

The Green and White will return to action when it hosts Wisconsin-Green Bay at the Convocation Center Monday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
