EAGLES AND PURPLE EAGLES TANGLE TO WRAP UP 2010: After a four-day break from the court for the holidays, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hosts Niagara University Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Convocation Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
EMU enters the game with an 8-5 record after dispatching University of Illinois-Chicago, 74-54, at the Convo, Dec. 23. The Purple Eagles are 1-9 on the season following a 58-42 setback to the University at Buffalo, Dec. 21.

A BULLSEYE ON NIAGARA: It will be battle of the birds Tuesday, Dec. 28, as Eastern Michigan squares off against Niagara University. The schools are meeting for the third time with EMU holding the 2-0 edge in the series. Last season, EMU used an 11-0 run late in the first half as fuel to soar past Niagara, 83-68, at the Gallagher Center, Nov. 22, 2009. Tavelyn James lead the Eagles scoring attack with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
The only other meeting was an opening round contest at the Best Western Roundball Classic hosted by the University of South Florida, Nov. 27, 2004, in Tampa, Fla. That game featured nine lead changes, as Ryan Coleman and Nikki Knapp both poured in 14 points, leading the Eagles to the upset over the host Bulls the following day to claim the tournament title.

CLOSING OUT THE YEAR: Tuesday's game versus Niagara marks the Eagles' final game during the 2010 calendar year, as the team will usher in 2011, Jan. 5, against Northern Illinois University. Eastern Michigan is 17-16 all-time in the team's final game during the month of December, including winning seven of the last eight contests dating back to 2002.

NIAGARA TIES TO THE GREAT LAKES STATE: Niagara Head Coach Kendra Faustin grew up just 29 miles from EMU's campus in Hartland, Mich.. She went on to become a four-year starter in basketball at Lake Superior State University.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE METRO ATLANTIC ATHLETIC: Eastern is 9-4 all-time versus the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), having played Canisius College (4-2), Siena College (2-0), Marist College (1-0), Niagara University (2-0) and Saint Peter's College (0-2).

SCHROCK SOLID: Senior Cassie Schrock has a pair of exceptional nights versus Temple, Dec. 21, and Illinois-Chicago, Dec. 23, averaging 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. The Wadsworth, Ohio native was a solid 21-for-28 from the free throw line, including a personal-best 14-for-18 from the charity stripe against the Flames. The 14 free throws made equal the school-record set by Colleen Russell versus the University of Akron, Feb. 12, 2008.
Also with a steal in the opening moments versus UIC, Schrock became the third player in EMU women's basketball history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 175 steals in their career. The Wadsworth, Ohio native currently has 1,111 points, 599 rebounds, 386 assists and 177 steals in her career.

STARTING TO COME TOGETHER: Over the past three contests the Eagles have started to gel, winning the last three games by an average of 21.7 points per game (EMU 71.7, OPP 50.0). Eastern's field goal percentage has also started to climb to 39.1 percent while going to the charity stripe 103 times.

EAGLE NATION SIX-PACK: Tuesday's contest closes out a historic homestand at the Convocation Center for the Eagles. Since Dec. 6, EMU has remained in Ypsilanti for six games over the span of 23 days. The homestand was the second-longest in the program's 35-year history, only bettered by a seven-game streak during the 1979-80 campaign. The Green and White will take to the road Jan. 5, 2011, to open Mid-American Conference play before returning to the friendly confines of the Convo for three more contests against league competition.

THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Dec. 28 will mark the 10th time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 7-2 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2007 when the Green and White downed Duquesne University in double overtime, 79-77, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

EMU STEPPING UP FOR THE MAC: Eastern Michigan helped make a huge statement for itself and the Mid-American Conference with a 65-56 victory over Temple, Dec. 21, at the Convocation Center. The Eagles' win snapped a 12-game losing skid for the league against the Owls dating back to the 2007-08 campaign.
As part of Temple's affiliate membership agreement to join the league in football, the basketball team was asked to play each of the MAC's 12 members in a home-and-home contest. TU has recorded a 19-3 record in those contests, only dropping games at Bowling Green (67-86; Nov. 26, 2006), at Miami (53-70; Jan. 2, 2008) and at EMU.
