BATTLE OF THE BIRDS SET FOR TUESDAY AT THE CONVOCATION CENTER: With final exams complete and the holiday season in full swing, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the court Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a non-conference test against Temple University. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
EMU enters the game with a 6-5 record after dispatching Canisius College, 76-40, in front of 1,293 fans in Ypsilanti, Dec. 11. The Owls are 7-4 on the season following a 55-43 victory over Villanova, Dec. 19.

ALMOST A FORTNIGHT AWAY: When the ball is tossed up Tuesday, Dec. 21, the Eagles will have experienced a 10-day hiatus from game action dating back to a Saturday, Dec. 11, contest versus Canisius College at the EMU Convocation Center. The break is the longest of the season for the Green and White as well as the most days off during the season since a 12-day gap in the 2009-10 campaign.

A BULLSEYE ON TEMPLE: It will be battle of the birds, as Eastern Michigan squares off against Temple at the Convo. The schools are meeting for the second time with the Owls holding a 1-0 edge in the series. In a matchup of 4-0 teams last season at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 24, 2009, Temple cruised to a 64-46 victory. A slow start haunted the Eagles, as they were only able to notch 17 points in the opening stanza, while the Owls jumped out to a 32-17 halftime advantage.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE ATLANTIC 10: Eastern is 5-8 all-time versus the Philadelphia, Pa. based Atlantic 10 Conference, having only played six of the 14 member institutions. EMU is 1-0 against St. Bonaventure, 1-0 versus Saint Louis, 1-0 against Duquesne, 2-1 versus Massachusetts, 0-6 against Dayton and 0-1 versus Temple.

EAGLE NATION SIX-PACK: Tuesday's contest continues a historic homestand at the Convocation Center for the Eagles. Beginning Dec. 6, EMU remains in Ypsilanti for six games over the span of 23 days. The homestand is the second-longest in the program's 35-year history, only bettered by a seven-game streak during the 1979-80 campaign. The Green and White will take to the road Jan. 5, 2011, to open Mid-American Conference play before returning to the friendly confines of the Convo for three more contests against league competition.

THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Dec. 21 will mark the 15th time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 4-10 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2009 when the Green and White downed Chicago State University, 83-64, in Chicago, Ill.

MAGIC NUMBERS: In Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's tenure, when two particular numbers on the scoreboard were achieved it typically has been a sign of an EMU win. When the Eagles have scored at least 70 points, their record is 29-10, including winning their last six games, while when they hold opponents under 70 points, their record is 46-17.
Under Gilbert's leadership, Eastern Michigan is 43-8 when leading at the half and 45-2 when holding a lead with five minutes to play in the game.

STOP, THIEF!: In the 76-40 victory over Canisius, Dec. 11, EMU racked up 28 steals, which is tied for the second-best effort in team history. Three seasons ago versus NCCAA member Temple Baptist (11-11-07), the Eagles stole the rock a record 29 times.
The Eagles have recorded six double-figure steals contests this season.

TURNING OVER THE GRIFFS: EMU forced Canisius into 37 turnovers, the most by an opponent this season, and the most since the Eagles forced Rochester into 40 miscues, Dec. 9, 2009. The 37 turnovers are tied for the third most in the Convocation Center's 12-year history, trailing the dubious standard of 41 by Temple Baptist College, Nov. 11, 2007.

SCHROCK IN RARE AIR: Senior Cassie Schrock is looking to join some rarefied company, as she needs just two steals to become the third player in Eastern Michigan University women's basketball history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 175 steals in their career. The Wadsworth, Ohio native currently has 1,080 points, 575 rebounds, 378 assists and 173 steals in her career.

STRUGGLING FROM DEEP: The Eagles have been struggling from three-point range this season, shooting just 26.5 percent from behind the arc, which ranks ninth in the Mid-American Conference. EMU is averaging 5.2 treys per game, which ranks eighth in the league.
