YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team finished its 2010 exhibition season with a perfect 2-0 record after handing a visiting Northwood University team a 96-49 setback here Wednesday night, Nov, 3, in the Convocation Center.

Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's Eagles relied on the same tactics that helped them beat Saginaw Valley, 84-60, in the first exhibition game, Oct. 29, mainly a smothering full-court press and some timely long-range shooting, to produce the win over Northwood.

The Eagles turned over the Timberwolves 37 times while recording 23 steals. Eastern also connected on 11-of-26 three-point field goals for 42.3 percent from beyond the arc while also making 33-of-76 field-goal attempts for 43.4 percent. Northwood made just 17-of-46 field-goal attempts for 37 percent. Eastern won the battle of the boards, 42-36.

The Eagles had five players in double figures and 12 of the 14 players that saw action cracked the scoring column. Turning in double-figure scoring efforts were junior guard Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) with 21, senior guard Sydney Huntley (Cincinnati, Ohio-Purcell Marian) with 17, senior guard De'Ja Wills (Anderson, Ind.-Anderson) added 15, senior guard Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) recorded 12, and senior forward Raina Spencer (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenvile) chipped in 10.

Northwood was paced by senior forward Pam Wilson with 21 points, the lone Timberwolve player in double figures.

Northwood opened the game with a 1-0 lead after Wilson made the second of two free throws.

The Eagles quickly erased that lead with 13 unanswered points, with Rogers scoring five during that stretch.

Northwood would rally, however, pulling within two, 15-13, on a layup by Sara Pawlaczyk at the 11:07 mark of the first half.

Eastern would then go on a 6-0 mini-run with James closing out that surge on a three-point field goal for a 21-13 lead at the 10:01 mark.

The Green and White would continue to re-build the lead, taking a 39-26 advantage into halftime. The Eagles made 6-of-14 three-point attempts in the first half and also had 11 steals. Huntley led Eastern with 14 points and James added 10 in the first 20 minutes. Wilson led the Timberwolves with 10 in the first half.

Eastern opened the second half with a flurry, running off eight unanswered points to take a 47-26 lead with 16:43 left in the contest. The Eagles would go on to lead by as many as 42 points, 86-44, on a three-point shot by Spencer with 4:59 left and would increase it to 47 late in the game.

Eastern is scheduled to open the 2010-11 regular season at home against Loyola Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
