YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)–
Guards Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) and Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) led the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team to an opening night victory, 82-64, over the University of Loyola-Chicago Friday evening, Nov. 12, at the Convocation Center. The Eagles recorded 34 points off turnovers and received a 23 point contribution from the bench.

Schrock (16 points), James (16), Paige Redditt (Kansas City, Mo.-Belton) (14), Sydney Huntley (Cincinnati, Ohio-Purcell Marian) (11), and true freshman Olivia Fouty (Toledo, Ohio- Sylvania Northview) (10) each reached double figures for the Eagles, who improve to 1-0 on the young season.

Schrock also notched 10 boards to earn herself a second-straight double-double in a home opener. James went 4-of-4 from the line while Huntley filled 7-of-8 and Redditt made 6-of-8.

For the Ramblers (0-1), Lindsey Sebetic led the way offensively with 20 points.

Despite a 7-of-8 effort from the charity stripe by Huntley in the opening half, the Eagles went just 10-of-31 from the field (20.8 percent) to find themselves trailing, 25-23, at the break. For the Ramblers, Sebetic and Ellen Ayoub each went 3-of-6 from the floor and headed to the break with nine and seven points, respectively.

The Eagles found their stroke in the second half, with a 20-of-40 (50 percent) effort from the field and 6-of-10 (60 percent)  from beyond the arc. The period began with a layup by senior Kristin Thomas (Winter Park, Fla.-Edgewater (Hillsborough C.C.)) to tie the score, 25-25. A steal by Huntley on the following possession resulted in a made three pointer by Schrock to put the Eagles ahead, 28-25.

With the Green and White down one and 15:24 remaining, Fouty hit a pair of free throws spark a 9-0 run to give the home team the lead for good, 42-34. The win gave the Eagles their ninth season-opening victory in the past ten years.

The Eagles will be back in action Sunday, Nov. 14, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Action is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
